I'm trying to hang with my friend, but the guy won't put his fucking phone down. He's been like this for the past year. I'm fucking done with it. All of our other friends agree that he's been acting like a cunt because of it. PUT YOUR FUCKING PHONES DOWN PEOPLE.

That is why I switched from my Iphone back to a basic phone. Spent way to much time on it and wasn't paying attention to the things or people around me. It seems everyone when not looking where they are going are looking at their phones. The week long battery life and indestructibility are a plus as well.

I used to be like that. I started setting my phone on the table or somewhere in view that would make me realize how big of an asshole I was being if I grabbed it. (Wow run on sentence!) it's taken some time but I've gotten way better about leaving it alone & tucked away.

Broke the shit out of my phone on gaper day and honestly could not be happier about it. Is it a minor inconvenience to not be able to contact anyone anytime or play music with it? Yes but there are other ways to go about doing those things... The silence is golden, and definitely puts into perspective just how much these stupid trinkets deplete our life-clocks and attention spans. I had never really considered just how much time is wasted tapping at a screen until now, and I'll definitely be taking my sweet time getting a new one.

I think it's funny how much being in a relationship will change that though. Literally the second you get a girlfriend she won't ever allow you to be on your phone while she's talking. It's actually good practice for when you actually have interesting conversations with people.

I hate to say it but Im condescending with that topic. Depending on the scenario Im like "put your phone down and look around" and sometimes Im the one on my phone. The best way to avoid this is for me is to put it in airplane mode and carry on. I only really glue my face to my phone when Im at lunch or walking to my next class if Im not with anyone. I never really care to use my phone to an excess when Im out in my backwoods and stuff since my phone is on/off about sending stuff on just 3g/4g lte.

My data is pretty awful speed wise and I don't have any games on my phone so that helped me use my phone less. I usually just use my phone on the train for music. I don't think I could make the move away from a smartphone though, it's imbedded in our society now..

I've felt myself getting to that point. All it took was some self restraint.

A smart phone is an excellent tool and makes things convenient. But when you are mindlessly scrolling through reddit/facebook all day, then you've got a problem.

My quality of life has significantly increased since I quit scrolling through social media for 2+ hours a day.

I might get a smartphone for college though, still haven't decided. Being able to use google maps on the go would be the biggest plus for me.

One of my friends was giving me a ride home from the ski hill a while back and I told him I could give directions but no, he puts on the fucking GPS, to get to MY house. Like i get if we were going somewhere neither of us had been before, but we were driving to my fucking house..

I don't know why this annoys me so much but just the fact of people relying soooo much on a stupid phone just is fucking stupid

Really sucks for the introverted soft spoken kids who have issues with social interaction and always struggle with social awkwardness. No one wants to have a conversation anymore so they're fucked, no one knows how to talk to people. Even adults I try and talk to on a regular basis at work are kinda taken back that someones trying to spark a conversation up with them instead of being glued to phone screens. its weird as fuck.

I think even more so with dating its an issue. Swiping left or right on a bootycall app like Tinder is how people nowadays try and find significant others which is strange to me. Im sure it works for some of you but im not down with viewing a few shitty looking profile pictures and making a decision to date someone off of that. shits weird as fuck.

Over time it just got easier to check social media, watch an edit or do something more productive on my phone than to sit there painfully silent. It just kind of fills in the gaps and calms social anxiety for me.

Sometimes I just don't like talking to people either. Like I don't understand how people can sit around and talk about stupid shit all the time. And maybe that's just me but sometimes I get more use of my time by looking up stuff that actually interests me.

But I understand the frustration when you're doing something and your friends are MIA. Like it's always shitty when you're skiing and your friend(s) is(are) caught up listening to music and constantly on social media. It's like why even bother going together at that point haha.

Im pretty much the same. Im awkward, shy, quiet and dont have much to say unless its a topic I can talk about. My phone kinda helps me not look like a nerd in a crowd of jocks when Im around big crowds which isnt that common anyways. As for skiing I only use my phone on the lift to check/reply to messages and maybe snapchat otherwise its just for music which I just put on shuffle and have one earbud so I can hear everyone around me. Luckily Im getting better at making conversation with people around me but I still use it unnecessarily sometimes but Im slowly getting over it.

yeahhh exactly! Like I can keep conversation going about something I know well. Like skiing or rugby or something. But otherwise I'm way too awkward and shy and it's just better if I keep my mouth shut lol. But I do enjoy listening to people have conversations sometimes. Not like eves dropping, but just kind of going with the flow if that makes sense. It's pretty cool and you dont have to talk lol! But yeah, most times I do not like to participate in conversations hahaha.

Ever thought of just asking folks about things you dont know about? people get super stoked to talk about and explain things theyre passionate about... its really as easy as saying "oh, whats that?", or "how does that work?". Worst case, you come out of the convo having learned about something boring as fuck, but can talk about it a bit should it ever come up again.

so? who the fuck cares? I say stupid shit all the time. Last week at a demo day i had a brainfart and i asked the Salomon Reps if i could demo some Super7s or Squad 7s and they just kinda tilted their head at me and didnt say anything like WTF?

Be able to laugh at yourself. Id much rather hangout with a good hearted genuine goofball who puts their foot in their mouth over someone who doesnt talk for fear of saying something stupid. You arent always going have the energy to be super social, but dont intentionally hide from the world through your phone- especially as a women be constantly aware of your surroundings.

Honestly, it's bizarre to me. I've grown up and only recently started to notice this obsession. A few times before the start of class I've sat there counting how many people were glued to their phones. Oftentimes, more than 75% of the class had their heads down. I'm a sociable introvert, I like to talk about meaningful things; ideas, concepts, stuff that help me to understand myself and others. Studying abroad at the uni of Alaska majoring in 9/11 and bush conspiracies and minoring in art history it's safe to say I'm fucked. Nevertheless, I think many people are afraid of silence. Something that is encouraged in eastern cultures and mysticism. I'm not saying a good conversation is a bad thing, I'm just saying in order to truly understand yourself and this world you have to sit in silence and look within. Only then can you truly feel comfortable with yourself. We all have insecurities and for many people wasting time by swiping up, down, left and right is only a temporary escape.

And when in comes to the shy person, it really does suck because shy people are the ones in most need for communication. There souls want to socialize and now more and more people choose to devolve. Everything is happening so fast. REPENT, PRENT, buy smaples!! BUY SMAPLES

Reaction time has a lot to do with choline. I would supplement with eggs and beans and then just shoot me a text after a week and see how you feel. I've spent tens of thousands on supplements and only sublingual egg tinctures and Lima bean capsules helped me. I'm as sharp as pencil now.
