Skiing alone

Do you guys like skiing alone at all or are like me and only progress and have fun with friends. Recently all my friends got jobs at the mountain except for me so I've just been chilling in the lodge because I get so bored alone

Situational, but yeah, I'm a big advocate of skiing solo. Getting to the park for first chair and having the place to yourself. Ripping top to bottom pow runs at the hill after a big dump. Solo backcountry missions with nothing but you and the snow covered trees.

It's good for the soul.

You sit in the lodge rather than ski alone? Sounds fun.

Just go shred. Throw on some tunes. Hit some groomers, hit some trees, send some laps through the park doing mellow stuff, or throw down or whatever. Talk to other people in the park, make new friends.

If you just talk to a few people here and there in the park you'll be sending laps with people, and friends with them in no time. It's not that bad.

Ditch the lodge and get out on them skis

Almost every time I meet someone and start skiing with them, they just slow me down and bitch about everything. I prefer skiing alone.

go ski by your self and go learn a new trick or go find new people and ski with them and if that doesn't work out jus don't go if your going to jus sit in the lodge all day because your bored.

I skied alone for the first time on friday at the TAFT at my mtn (wachusett) and it actually sucked. I didn't have fun, and i don't like skiing with music which made it worse. My friends and I push each other and hype each other up so skiing alone isn't my fav.

I always throw on some head phones and just shred, lifts can get kinda boring but it's whatever haha skiing is more fun with friends tho

I suppose this is different for me bc I ride a rope park (troll). I don't have to wait for someone to ride the chair up. Me and @kianbarret just hot lap and if we want to talk we just wait for one another, which we do a lot.

Shocking new study shows that if you approach a social situation while giving off horribly shitty vibes, you probably won't find so much success.

Hiking features with andy parry and other skiers, so horrible. Just talk to people, and don't be ridiculously negative.

At least some of your friends were complete strangers at one point. As you get older your interests change and your friends change. Some people you'll still be good friends with but for the most part, they aren't forever. Don't let your friends stop you from doing things you like. Same with skiing. Maybe your friends will stop skiing at some point. Just talk to other people in the park. Generally most mountains try to make sure there are more than one skier on the mountain in effort to not go bankrupt.

Sesh a box with them, spin some laps. It's not that hard(or maybe it is, idk)

That's not my point. I actually met a bunch of new skiers and had a good time meeting and skiing with them, it's just not the same vibe skiing with the kids I normally ski with. I wasn't giving off any shitty vibes, I just didn't have as good a time as usual

Personally I love skiing alone. I love listening with music and when I ski with people I have to turn it down to talk about pointless shit which kills the vibe. I do however like skiing in a group of friends because then it is just fun and you are messing around, but my most quality skiing comes from when I'm by myself jamming to some tunes.

So personally I like both, but I think I do favor being alone a little bit more because of the music, not being slowed down, and you can just enjoy the mountain.

If you are used to skiing with friends all the time skiing alone takes some getting used to. First few times I went by myself I was not very motivated at all and called it a day after 2-3 hours. After doing that a few times I started loving it and now I almost prefer riding solo.

You don't have to wait for anyone and you can ride whatever you want as many times as you want.

Of course it isn't all sunshine and rainbows, it can be harder to get motivated to try new stuff. But as everyone else said, build a good playlist and just have fun on the playground that is your mountain.

Agreed however some good herbs are also essential when skiing solo.

It's what my soul feeds on...he gets hungry in the summer. I totally agree, but I'm still hesitant to go deep backcountry solo. Hitting backcountry solo is usually reckless and a good way to die. You gotta know the terrain and snowpack sooo well.

Skiing alone for sure. I like to find off beaten chutes and have that music up loud. I'll ski with friends early, then the rest of the day alone and meet up with my friends after for a few runs. I'm selfish though and want to do what I want to do, not what some snowboarder friends want to do.

All I really do is ski alone, occasionally I ski with friends but I feel like when I ski alone I can work at my own pace and really practice my tricks as much as I want without feeling guilty about having my friend sit and watch me hike a feature until I land the trick I want unless of course they do the same. But I'm really self motivated and that comes from skateboarding a lot and will usually not stop trying a trick if I feel like I'm close to landing it. I would love to ski with kids I don't know but I really don't know any park skiers at loon personally and idk if any of them would ski with me so I normally just do my own thing.

More often than not I ski alone. Pop some tunes in and just do my own thing and get away from it all. As someone stated earlier it's good for the soul.

Plus like 5 minute friendships on the chairlift are always interesting to hear people's story.

Most definitely is good for the soul. I personally love skiing alone, theres a sense of freedom that cant be explained when you go riding alone.

Skiing alone is both awesome and horrible, imho. The main reason i ski alone, as previously stated is no waiting up and no peer pressure. However if you're out there in the trees and off-piste then it's good to have a buddy with you, just so if you fall in a tree well or some crap somebody is there to help you not die.

Last year, I actually learned to love to ski by myself. My skier friends went in BC while I stay in school on east coast. So i started to ski alone and it is just a way to concentrate on your skiing, you don't have to wait anybody. On a sunny day, I love listening to music. But wierdly, during the snowfalls, I love having my ears free. The snow feeling like a pillow that captures all sounds which makes you feel like you are in your own world. Awesome feeling.

Just spent the past 3 days/nights skiing alone. Get your hot laps folks!! No one was there to see those sick lines but that is probably why I was still slashing fresh pow in my stashes yesterday afternoon.

I ski alone most of the time and choose so. I do enjoy making turns with people. I am sort of selfish about skiing. It is weird and I have always been this way. I prefer to meet people up there and share some of the day but I like to be on my own schedule and dip out and take some turns alone. I am really looking forward to ski time with my boyfriend this year, though. Skiing is meditation for me.

Both are very different ! And both can be awsome :) , but Im kinda picky with the people i ski with ... I dont like slow people, people who dont want a go in the park or dont want to try anything, snowboarders (most of them), people who complain, ......

Skiing alone is a lot about having time for yourself, with yourself. Usually I try new tricks first when Im alone ... so I can just do it over and over until I get it, no ones waiting for me or get exhausted.

Skiing with people is more having a good time all together, laught and fooling around. Way nicer in the chairlift ! (even if i do talk to strangers a lot, but usually it is more with older people, i think im more shy with people of my age).

I love skiing alone, but for me skiing alone means I actually get to ski nothing but park and cliffs all day where as skiing with people I might get a couple park/cliff runs but also lots of bullshit.

If you have friends who ski park, you will progress more with friends pushing you but at the same time, how much does that happen? At least if you ski alone you will be so confident and solid because you'll be doing it all day long

I like skiing alone for the fact that you can meet some chill new people in the singles line.
Got hooked up with my first game of slvsh this way. Also is nice to be alone with your thoughts.

I only ever ski with one friend, who snowboards and it's real chill with him cuz then I get pushed to try more stuff and I have someone to spot/scope out features with/film/split gas.
Also said friend can keep up. Nothing pisses me off more than skiing with someone who just stands around for long periods of time. We get the hot laps going.

Working at a resort during nights means I get off at 7, I'm on hill usually alone by open at 9 and I love it. I'll take a few laps no music just enjoy the quiet of the mtn and let the air give me a good wake up. Hit my favorite lines then head to the park for some solo laps usually perfect lips and no one ever in the park that early other than a few gapers or the other night shift guys. Since its firmer in the morning I had to adjust to that a bit for warming up in the park, by the time all the homies show up its usually 11 or 12 and I'm ready to throw down new stuff and try things with them. I work on hood so always see someone I know on hill and if there's the chance I dont see anyone singles line and meet some people. Ive shredded with anyone from 17-86 you can hear some awesome stories have good laughs. And hell even if you just ride up the chair with them its new conversation with new people be social. I personally never used to listen to music on the mtn it would throw me off, but after awhile I realized the right playlist will make you love your day. On my weekends the roommates and I will film or go to other resorts. Lifes what you make of it just enjoy the fact you get to ski.

Skiing alone is honestly when my head is the clearest. No better time for some reflection than on a quiet chairlift surrounded by trees and snow and mountains
