TheKasTeamI did not see this yesterday when I started the same thread lol..
I've made a git repo:
If anyone want to join in on some coding or know of some API, feel free to comment or PM or whatever.
My plan is:
Create a simple sketch of the application
Create a photo, video and forum section
If API is provided:
Create a functional login
So if there's not any API to use, the Kimono extention is pretty neat to provide some JSON from skraping content off a website: https://www.kimonolabs.com/
I applaud your passion and effort here, it's no small undertaking. I just wanted to make a few things clear before you get too invested. An app has been created before by community members, it's no longer available for a few reasons.
First is that some of the features the developer wanted to create didn't have existing API calls. Forums are an example, there is no external way to grab forum data except for scraping the HTML pages, which is exactly what the previous developer did. When we changed our forum page layout their app broke and they decided it was too much work to re-write their XML parser and abandoned the app.
The other issue was that although we have several API services available for media (photos, videos, channels, etc...), they were all created specifically for the functionality of the Photo, Video and NSTV pages. There are gaps in the API, and more importantly there is no guarantee they will continue to function the same as they do today. I can tell you now that we are working on a huge refresh of the Photo and Video pages, and most of the existing API calls are going to be removed or replaced.
Ideally we'd have a published API service with documented endpoints that we would support, and provide advanced notice of changes. However that isn't quite in the cards... yet.
Move fast, break things.
