Time lapse photography

So tomorrow I leave on my trip to New Zealand for Christmas break and I am wanting to try some time lapse stuff while I am there. My remote just came yesterday, and I'm wondering what I should be setting it to in order to take shots of the stars moving across the sky. Any information about time lapse/remotes would be great.

BTW I'm not sure if this really matters but I'm shooting with a Canon Rebel T3i and I have a Neewer remote.

you're going to want to get an intervalometer remote and or magic lantern which i believe has an intervalometer feature for the t3i version. You'll want longer exposures, but it depends what type of shot you're looking to get. If you want star trails do 20+ second exposures. There's a lot that goes into it so I'd recommend doing some research.

I have magic lantern on my 60d and it does the job quite well. You can set the intervalometer for any interval you want and It will tell you the total time it takes for the whole shebang. I use StarStax to stack the photos and It has a bunch of settings to blend the images.
