AgitatedHiatusAny particular reason why?
*DUMBCAN*PCMR here
Both consoles are average computers, but if you have to go for one the user interface on the PS4 isn't complete garbage like the xbox's.
Then again probably the only thing that matters to you is the console exclusives. Like Halo? Xbox.
Or you could... you know... get a PC.
- cheaper
-if you want a computer that performs on the level of a console that can be done for about the same price. The biggest cost with PC gaming is the up front cost, it gets much cheaper from there. Particularly if you buy games in sales.
CaptainObvious.Prove it. Find me a PC or show me a build that perform as well as a console with 500gb or storage for $350
*DUMBCAN*$400, sale prices don't count.

You'll make the money up in 5 AAA games, then getting it up to the specs of the next-gen consoles (ps5/xbox 2, to use stupid names) will cost significantly less.
Oh and you won't have to spend another $350 to do your homework. In the grand scheme of things, PC's are so much cheaper. As I said in my original post, the biggest barrier is the upfront cost.
CaptainObvious.Ok fair enough, you got a build the essentially met the challenge. Not quite 350 with a game but I'll give it to you.
Here's the issue though. It does meet bare minimum requirements, but there's no wifi capability, so you'll need a wifi card. There's no OS so you either fork out another 100 for Windows or you make due with a freeware OS. Ubuntu is fine, but it does take a learning curve to get it on your machine and maintain it. Not to mention there are a handful of compatibility issues between the licensed Microsoft office program and the free version for Ubuntu. So if your flaunting it for homework, you may be the one guy in the project group who has to email his teammates and ask them to save it in something other than docx format.
I totally get the PCMR and if I spent 4+nights a week playing videogames I'd drop the $1000 to do it right. The problem is that doing it on the cheap limits you. And doing it right is pricey. And with all available options there's a)no warranty, so if you fuck something up cause you don't know how to mount a processor properly.....that's on you. And b) even if you know what you're doing its constant overhead for the maintenance of a PC because if you don't stay on top of your performance issues and apps bogging down your RAM, then your gaming turns to shit.
Unless you're a PC enthusiast, consoles are the way to go.

*DUMBCAN*I mean I totally understand that if all you do is play games. With regards to internet, most desktops don't move much so an ethernet cable seems reasonable, also faster. I get 45 mbps on my wifi (shit router), 75 on the ethernet. Makes a huge difference if I buy a game like Witcher 3 and want to play it within a couple of hours.
My computer is the complete opposite of a gaming rig, I develop algorithms for computational chemistry on my computer, but I also want to play games. So I do both on the same machine, which happens to be a $1.5k pc. I didn't spend all of that at the same time, it cost me about $800 up front and I've upgraded it a lot. I could sell the old parts and make some of that back.
Once you add the cost of the PC you use for work/photo or video editing/watching netflix or whatever else you do to the price of a PS4, it's so much cheaper it's unreal. Particularly if you like macs (use hackintosh).
Biggest downside I see is you have to be your own tech support guy. I use linux 80% of the time so I'm kinda (extremely) used to it (nothing works. ever.), but teaching people how to use computers is really teaching them how to google and read technical documents effectively. Hardware problems can be a bitch too, but most parts come with huge (often 3+ years to lifetime) warranties so it's just an inconvenience.
If your xbox breaks, good luck with MS support... (side note: I have a friend who was earning upwards of $40k a year fixing 360s with red ring, amongst other things. He was 14. Tech ability pays, and it's 90% google.)
CaptainObvious.Really it depends on what you want to play. Do you care about Halo? Uncharted? Tomb Raider? No Mans Sky? Gears of War? Matter fall?
In the end, the graphics difference is negligible and anyone who argues it is just a fuckfanboi of whatever system they're defending. I got a One cause I cared about Halo. Then 343 fucked shit up with MCC and now I'm buying a PS4 cause I want a lot of the exclusives in 2016.

dustygoldflakesXbox One and let me tell you why. First of all Halo is the best shooter franchise in gaming in my opinion. The original halos CE, 2 , 3 will never be beat. They were better than COD in every way. second of all Forza. As a car enthusiast I have played both forza and grand turismo and I can confidently say with no bias opinion that Forza is much better. 3rd the only things sony had on the xbox have now been equalized, like it has Blueray, both platforms cost money and lastly. Well Xbox live has never been hacked and if i'm correct PSN has been hacked twice now.
