Youtube taking measures to fight against adblock!
I mean in a way this does somewhat set the precedent for a subscription model.
Here's my question - those who have said in the past they would pay for a subscription, are you going to be paying for YouTube Red?
SDrvperWhat youtube is doing is slightly different than a full subscription model which is what I like. I can use youtube still and not even notice a difference in the service BUT if i was dedicated enough, like NS, I would pay more and get more. I would rather see a year subscription than monthly but thats just me!
.Rybak.meh Year subscriptions are too intimidating for the average consumer. Many people who are paying for such things would rather see a monthly subscription because it seems quite a bit less intimidating and takes the stress out of paying a large chunk of money all at once.
SDrvperYeah good point, I was speaking straight from what I would prefer to do but the way you described is definietly the way it should go
.Rybak.Kinda like how playstation and xbox do it. Or used to do it at least.
SDrvperYou got me, thats exactly where I get my logic, xbox live has always been yearly and I like just forking out a bit of extra cash upfront and not having to worry about it again for a year
For a website like NS and clearly like youtube month-based will always be better.
Wait is vimeo a year subscription or a monthly one?
.Rybak.A monthly subscription service in my opinion is definitely a better way to go. Maybe a year subscription also but if you pay for a year all at once maybe a little bit discounted? Kinda like how playstation and xbox do it. Or used to do it at least.
Mr.BishopOh yeah that is the way to go. Monthly is a bit more expensive, but if you hit yearly its a discount.
To my original question though - has anyone who thinks that YouTube Red is a good idea actually paid money and subscribed?
.Rybak.I think it's a good idea. I just haven't actually paid money for it and probably won't. Unless I decided to get google play of course which supposedly works with youtube red. I already have spotify premium and I like it a lot more the google play.
Mr.BishopThis has always been my challenge with the concept of subscription. I really feel like most people are just going to choose the ad-supported option or simply use adblock.
What if we did something where you got an ad-free experience (which would have to work across platforms much better) but also got either some store credit, a regular sticker re-load or a yearly swag pack? Kind of a boxed set premium experience sort of deal?
