can any 1 tell me how to butter. so a butter is a whirly bird done on the fronts or the backs of u skis?? how many degrees do u spin???

buttering cant be defined the same way as say a spin in the air, you can butter a little bit and pop onto a rail, or butter pop and spin a 360 in the air or just butter a 180 before a switch takeoff. the possibilities and uses are enless really

buttering is aclually a real general term. i usually say something like switch tail butter 270 to box or something. Then u can also butter off jumps, switch butter 3. If you stay on here and watch ski movies you will learn the lingo.

for a 'normal butter' -

ride fakie then start to turning 180 degrees with your skis pretty close together and put all your weight on the back tips and one your riding straight again on your back tips, pop off them and spin another 90 or 270 onto the rail/box

read the trick tips in the last freeze. go in switch, and in one solid motion turn onto your tails and pop off of your tails onto the rail or off of the jump or the cornice or whatever. you have to be on your tails, tho, most ppl don't get that, thats where the style comes from. otherwise its just turning into a rail, which i think is called a revert.

you DO want to catch your edge other wise you wont flex your skis enough to have your weight back on you tails or tips. not your inside edge your outside edge.tail butters are hard unless you have really center mounted your skis there just isnt enough ski to flex enough and be able to hold. tanners butter in 1242 is possibly the best butter ever.

i learned butters today, they are actually really easy.
1.) find a bump or smething you wanna butter over (dont start with a 550 foot cliff, that might hurt alot)
2.) approach with minimal speed, not alot is needed for butter 3's
3.)hit it at an angle so you are already 70 degrees or more.
4.)throw yourself forward spinning in the direction you want on your tips. make sure you can lean forward on flat groun and that you have at least half a foot under the back of your skis of air.
5.)land and ski away feeling like you accomplished something.

tip: the first 180 of the butter lean forward a ton and your momentum will eiher a) shoot you onto your face or b) throw you around for the second 180
