Things to do when Injured

So I recently broke my neck cliff jumping and its been 3 days and im already bored out of my mind because I cant do my backyard setup, I cant tramp, and i cant do most physical activity. For the next week and a half the only physical activity I can do that I know of is walk and stationary bike, I cant even fish because they need to know my spine is good. I will have to wear a neck brace for some time. After that its likely I will be able to do some activity but its likely I wont be able to tramp or do backyard setup for at least a month probably two or three. My question is are there any good things I could do to keep me active or at least keep me from not going insane. I'm probably gonna get a gym membership and stay fit...will that help? I had an internship at Ohio dreams this summer but im unable to go to that now.... if anyone has any ideas to help me stay sane and active that would be great... and if anyone knows any activity's I could do that would benefit my body for skiing that I could do while recovering from a broken neck...+K and much gold for any answer or story of how you got through recovering from an injury...If you want to see the vid of the fail lmk and I know it was dumb to front flip off a 60 ft cliff first try.. this made me smarter tho and I think it will make me a better skier.. Heal up, sending positive vibes... I have to wear a sling right now since I dislocated my shoulder about a week ago so not nearly as bad but I know how it feels to be denied from the summer setup :( to keep sane and semi in shape I go for hikes on some singletrack near my house since I can't really run or bike. Another hella fun thing to do if you can only walk is geocaching. Check out geocaching.com , it keeps you active and gives some incentive to go on a hike.

Injuries are tough. Our minds tell us we want to do stuff, when our bodies tell is not to. Remember to not do anything strenuous that will worsen what is already sucky...they take time. I would rather be out a month than be hurting for a year.

Anyway,

1. NETFLIX
2. Draw
3. Music (idk if you play an instrument or you could do dubstep stuff?)
4. watch ski edits
5. Girls

I was so bored for the first two weeks, all I did was watch movies. It sucks! Just don't rush into doing something stupid and hurting your neck worse.

Yea just take it easy. You don't wanna screw anything else up, especially with your spine. And I came here to say not to beat it, but to play call of duty. Really it's the best thing before Netflix

I was just injured for two months, pretty much just stayed around good company like friends, played too much skate and smoked excessive weed. Heal up dude sendin vibes

Oh well! As much I would love to suggest that you must go outdoor, however, it's really important to get healed first. It's better to do doctor's advise than risk and stay in bed more longer.

rest. your body needs some rest at first to heal man. pull out a gameboy and some dope games. while resting also just get stoked on skiing by staying on newschoolers, music, and thinking about tricks/ progression and skiing. maybe try to see if you can learn self hypnosis as a calming meditative tool. it helps keep you calm and also helps before skiing. then when you get the ok to start training/building strength go hard and come back bigger and better then before. good luck man sending you healing vibes also

I fractured my spine back in march and it took me a solid 3 months before i was fully back into things. First off, stay positive, stay active, and dont let yourself shut down. if you have a girlfriend your golden, but if not theres a few things you can do. Hikes are great, the gym is an awesome idea, watching ski edits can be good until they make you depressed that you still cant ski for a while haha, honestly reading books isnt that bad, and stretching. Just know that if you stay active and take care of your injury, youll be able to come back at life in full force. if you can afford physio, do it! also with my back i tried something called IMS, which is basically deep muscle acupuncture and i find it helps my back out a ton so try that too :) Stretching/yoga is a must, but make sure you get your doc's permission to start. Try to keep a positive outlook on it man, things will get better. chill with friends, just do anything you can do to keep occupied. if you need to talk or anything feel free to PM me homie

I broke my back in April and had to wear a back brace for 3 months. It sucked, but I got through it. I was thrilled when they told me I could ride my bike in May. I can now sail and do most non-extreme physical activity. For now though, I suggest finding productive to do. Build something, get into photography. I made a forge and was able to melt steel. Heres a video on making it.

Shattered a vertebrae last feb and i was out for 6 months. Get back on skis again this year and i almost die in a car crash in march. Fuck skiing. But shit man i need it to snow im all healed up and ready to fuck up some more and almost die a third time! Idk your interests but i put my injury time into learning how to edit video and learned a lot of camera technique (not like it helped at all but it occupied my time) last year. This year i was a little more able bodied with only 2 skull fractures and a severed tendon in my hand so i went for walks and i did a lot of research on colleges. not sure if any of this is applicable to you but i hope it helps homie! Sendin positive vibes!
P.S. wear the fucking brace and do the physical therapy. Shit's prescribed for a reason. I regret disobeying my doctors orders so wisen the fuck up and listen, they know their shit.

Last year I tore every muscle in my ankle and couldn't walk normally for a month and required a boot for the next 3. Even tho it's not as bad as your injury I couldn't do anything so I was gaming mostly xD but seriously you could play video games but if you want to stay in shape I'd say try hiking. I recently got into it and man it's some good training. The first couple of time you might want to go smooth and check all the trails but after a month me and my father tried to climb the mountain as fast as possible. So yeah I think hiking is really fun and could help you pass the days + it's a good training for the ski season!

Just talked to my doctor and he says he doesnt want me hiking or doing any activity just to be safe so im kinda out of luck thanks tho man... Its definitely hard to not do anything when you feel 100% when wearing the neck brace lol.

Definatly take it seriously. I broke my back a few years back, and I didn't really take it seriously. Still feeling the effects now. I thought that as long as I had my brace on it was fine, but it wasn't haha.

i missed this past season due to 3 knee surgeries and was on crutches for 4.5 months. for the last 7 months the most vigorous physical thing i could do was walk at some points. Since december 2nd i have done nothing physically strenuous. In the beginning i was distraught. for me at least you just got over it/used to it over time. it really helped me to track my progress and set goals for myself.the worst part other than missing skiing was the boredom. i partially overcame that with newschoolers and shredsauce. its tough but you just gotta persist. good luck.

That sucks man! I would be so sad if I had to miss a whole season...Not happy to be injured but im happy I will be better by the time ski season starts!

yeah it was really difficult not skiing. i just hope i dont forget everything i learned the 13/14 season.

Cliff was 50+ feet high I thought I would be fine no matter how I landed but what I found out when I hit was theirs some resistance at that height....Doc wants to be safe and have me out for a year cus possible ligament damage even though the bone will be healed in 4 weeks... vid is hard to tell what happened but here https://www.newschoolers.com/videos/watch/775025/Cliff-Jumping-fail

did you do any practice jumps before that? i usually do 1 practice jump and then something easy like a misty or backy

i tore my meniscus this year side of my knee) right before ski season about november and ill tell you i was on cruches and it was so fucking boring until in about febuary i THOUGHT it healed up so i went skiing in my backyard and ripped it then had to get surgery but ended up getting some late spring turns in probably wasn't the best thing to say . so watch edits movies music spank it anything to pass the time bro i feel ur pain tho i have to wear a knee brace practically doing anything
