Yeah, trying to go inside first instead of just outside right away probably cost him the stage, but still a great finish. Don't know when he'll lose the green jersey competition again, considering he's still only 25, will most likely keep getting better, and can get podium finishes on stages like the one today.

Hay guys! Just saw this thread, stoked to see some NSers dig the tour too! I try to watch as much as I can (being french and doing quite a bit of am bike racing it's almost a duty...). My bets are on Contador, even though with Ivan Basso gone because of his testicles it will be harder for him, Ivan helped him a lot during the mountain days.

Yeah, awesome to see a new team, and an African one no less, get a stage win.

I dunno, Froome looks pretty unbeatable. Even today when they got rid of his team and everyone was attacking him, he still didn't really crack at all. Granted it wasn't the longest climb out there, and maybe Quintana could have put time on him if the climb was longer and he had been able to put in a few more attacks, but the way Froome stuck with him and then even put space between himself and Quintana in the sprint at the finish made it seem like he wasn't ever really in trouble, even if he can't accelerate uphill the way Quintana can. The only way I see it happening is if the other GC guys can get Froome isolated again like he was today (no easy task with Thomas and Porte, who, don't forget was behind today because of a flat, helping him) and then Quintana and Valverde work together to attack him.

And here's hoping that Tejay can keep himself on the podium, at least.

Cool for MTN Qhubeka and a really strong win for Cummings. Very well plannend and thought out in the end. Taking advantage of Pinot and his teams effort, holding back, timing etc.. very well done!

Quintana is set for 2nd. Froome showed him at the finish why he has the yellow and is minutes ahead, even did a photofinish move..that guy is crazy fanatic. Nobody will come close to him only if he gets problems during a climb or when he falls..
Quintana wanted to take seconds from Tejay, he was never out to take seconds from Froome and I dont see that changing in the Alps..
Lets hope there will be a serious battle for 2nd.. I dont think Nibali will put effort into it, 5 min behind already.. My feeling says Tejay is not strong enough to take on Quintana but I really hope he has some moves left..

Quintana isn't close to mr. Spooky Scary Skellington.

Froome is king of cadence. Look at today, Quintana get's off the seat with a burst of power and shifts up to break loose. He got 10m clear before Skeletor shifted down, head down, elbows out and moved his legs faster then a metaphorically fast spinning object before reeling Quint in. He reaches 120-130 RPM on those bursts, it looks ridiculous but works. He just whizzes past.

I don't actually bike race, I didn't know the term in english for just flat ground speed biking, which is what I do, along with some mountain bike in forests when I get the chance to move to good spots and biking hills and mounts on roads (which again I don't know the english term for, think the alps in the tour de france)

There is always controversy around the yellow, doesnt matter who it is, and there is only more when he is minutes ahead. A lot of people just cant get their head around his different approach. But imo its brave to take a different path and stick to it. You really need to be able to stay calm when someone is breaking away and you cant react. I believe in the science behind this approach, that you can blow yourself up and it may not be the best tactic in the long run, but I also believe that people can transcend themselfs when they break away. Its all in the mind and believing you can make it, going 100% for it. Dont get me wrong, I'm not a Froome fan, I just like watching the Tour, the game, the fights, the tactics etc. But hearing that crowds are booing when team Sky passes them and they throw urine over Froome that makes me angry. People dont throw urine over someone who smashes some world record in another sport just because they cant believe it.

Yeah, it's so fucked. Also heard someone spit on Richie Porte yesterday as he rode by. Some of the people who come out to watch the Tour are just awful. Hard to believe people like that could even exist, but they're there every year, doing something moronic to make the race worse.

Barguil said that he hit or almost hit Tejay a little before that turn. Its not on video. Because of that he lost control went to fast and hit Thomas.. Despite of the reason , he risked the life of someone else with his moves. That may never happen. He wanted to go faster than the rest all the time and go to the front, but why? He had nothing or very little to gain. So just because of his restlessness he drives someone of the road..? Thats just stupid. Thomas hit his head on that pole, he is very lucky to be okay..

Now..about Sagan.. He looked a bit tired going up the last miles before the top, But IMO he lost precious time and eventually the stage with arguing. He was so busy trying make other riders of that group to take over that their speed was to low to stay within reach of Plaza.
I love that he is a passionate rider but this is just unnacessary..

Barguil basically lost control and hit Thomas coming into one of the corners on the descent, which knocked Thomas off course into the telegraph pole. It was very much a freak accident that out of all the places on the corner Thomas would go off it was into a telegraph pole. Luckily he was straight back on his bike and he finished the stage. It could have been a horrible accident and it could have also affected Froome in the later stages as a result..

Hopefully you're okay after your incident also!

Barguil said that because Tejay hit his arm and hand he couldnt brake for 1 or 2 seconds..
That may be, I still think his riding style was stupid and unnecessary. Why didnt he just stay in the train? They all know that road is narrow, has a couple of these tight corners and in general is know to be one of the most dangerous and difficult descents in the tour.
Not a place to ride reckless and jumpy..

Dunno how I feel about Nibali attacking when he see's Froome stop with a mechanical issue, but it was a good ride by him nonetheless. And yeah, Quintana will have to do something really special tomorrow to make up 2:40 or whatever the gap is to Froome. Gone are the days when you see GC guys putting multiple minutes into each other on a single day or climb, it seems. His only chance is if they can somehow make things hard for Froome before even getting to the base of l'Alpe d'Huez.

And that would have to involve Valverde sacrificing his GC spot, and I don't know how willing Movistar would be to do that, considering how unlikely it is that Quintana will win at this point.

Yeah Quintana just left it all too late, and I don't think Valverde had it in him to be tactical with Froome and Sky. Pretty exciting watch today though. Ryder put in a good one for the homeland!

Definitely not. Really, Froome won the tour as soon as Quintana had to slow down on the Croix de Fer to wait for Valverde a little. If they had gotten over the top alone they might have had a chance, but as soon as everyone got back together on the descent and Sky regrouped, it was impossible for Quintana to have to get rid of all of them again and put 2:30 in on Froome in a single climb. But great ride by the Sky boys to keep Froome going and getting him to the top still close enough to Quintana.

I think this is the best way to sum up the Tour this year. Sky was the most complete team and were able to pull through the victory in the Pyrenees that gave Froome his cushion.

Now, who wins the Sprint tomorrow?
