People so butt-hurt over the confederate flag flown @ SC capitol ???

Like why? I could see if a northern state was flying it...

It's a symbol of southern HERITAGE, not hate. Maybe to some retarded white trash fuckers. But it is flying high at the SC capital building, not because of racism, but to remember those that laid down their lives to stand for what they believed, for states rights. NOT only because of slavery.

There were tons of FREE slaves that fought for the south during the civil war, with many African Americans in the Sons of the Confederacy. Look it up if you want.


You're all fucking stupid if you think the flag is a symbol of racism just because the KKK uses it, obviously it's fucking dumb for anyone in the north to fly it. That's a no-brainer.

Being "liberal" is pretty hip for the college age group and this site has a lot of 18-26 year olds. But, I hate this question because why can't people just have an opinion without being labeled? For example, I lean liberal when it comes to social issues. However, when it comes to almost every other issue I lean libertarian. But, I may say my stance on this issue and you may say "oh dumb libtard". Do you see the problem in that? You want to just lump people all into one category and then judge them based on that.

This is bad the other way too when people do not want to think for themselves and they just follow their "parties" rhetoric. They blindly believe whatever their party candidate is spewing without realizing the top candidates from both parties take money from the same special interest groups. In other words, the candidates run for the corporations and not the people. You're better off thinking for yourself.

MinggNo, that was me. I didn't switch because men said i couldn't do it. I was told that in high school by everyone. They said stuff along the lines of "science is for men"- once again from a super conservative high school where straying from the norm was not encouraged. I switched for other reasons that are irrelevant to this conversation.

But no, I don't have a marketing degree. The people in that thread assumed i had a marketing degree which I never said I had, lol. I'm currently in school for marketing and financial analysis. That project i mentioned was through one of my intro marketing classes.

Wait how is this even related to this conversation?

It's relevant to the conversation because you never corrected anyone when they said you had a marketing degree, and if you do have a marketing degree it means you went to college and I would hope you had to take at least one history class if you did go there.

I just don't understand how the Civil War isnt common knowledge in America, that's what's confusing me. Even if your town is conservative you should still know what that flag stands and why the South wanted to secede from the union, and apparently you don't which I don't understand I guess its on the schools end.

I believe in minimal government, sting supporter of capitalism, believe America can still be an exceptional country, pro-life, supporter of the second amendment, I think gay marriage should be up to states to decide, against socialist medical care systems, now I will say I go against most conservative thought by thinking cannabis should be legal

I must ask, if you're for minimal government why would you think the government should be able to decide what you do with your body (abortion for example) or who you marry (having states decide)?

Being prolife can tie into the minimal government thing because abortion clinics are government owned and ran so by getting rid of them there is less government I am really also against all entitlement programs and with the marriage issue it is in the constitution that it is up to the states to decide

What? To say that an abortion clinic like Planned Parenthood is government owned and run is note even remotely true. They do receive government funding, but that only accounts for about 1/3 of their funding.

Late term abortions are wrong, outright. Using abortion as a form of birth control (which I have never heard of happening outside of pro life arguments) is wrong. To say that a fetus at 4-8 weeks is alive, I dunno.

I definitely understand the pro life argument, I think as a male however, it isnt really my place to tell women what they can and cannot do with their bodies, albeit an emotional issue.

I respect your opinion, but who is going to care for the unwanted babies? The parents? That would be punishing a kid who has not gotten a fair chance yet. You would almost have to agree with government healthcare and government assistance to support being prolife. Somebody is going to have to pay for those babies... Just something to think about

I think that's a stretch. The north and south had vastly different, and almost entirely independent economies. What caused that divide in the first place, you may ask? The south's dependence on slave labour. The south wanted, and fought in the attempt, to preserve the state slavery rights of which their economy was largely built around. The confederate constitution made the illegalisation itself of slavery illegal, they loved it that much. Read through any of the declarations of secession and you'll see how passionate they were about preserving the institution of slavery.
From a speech made by the vice-president of the confederacy: "...Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition."

Not last night no but I said it 2 pages ago that other racist organizations use that flag as their symbol. I also have a bunch of friends from Austria and they told me years ago if you have a tattoo of a swastika you go to jail so I know that they use it as substitution. That's very common knowledge KKK uses it as well.

You really have to love the notion that they want to fight for these lives to be born... And then tell them to fuck off as soon as the bill for it comes in.

That isn't being pro life, it's being pro birth. You can't scream that you care if you really don't so I find the "Pro Life/ Anti Healthcare" position to be one that's completely full of shit personally.

The American flag was the only flag flown on slave ships, good luck trying to change 5 states flags in the south that pretty much are the confederate flag

Can you not read? Blacks weren't allowed to fight for the south until March of 1865.


University of Tennessee historian Stephen Ash wrote in 2006 in the Journal Reviews in American History, that in January of 1864, Confederate Maj. Gen. Patrick R. Cleburne proposed enlisting slaves. When Confederate President Jefferson Davis heard the suggestion, Ash wrote, he "not only rejected the idea but also ordered that the subject be dropped and never discussed again in the army."

Also if the war was about anything other than slavery it would of started during the nullification crisis.


Again, you haven't answered the question, what if some German states flew a swastika high above their state capital? And said shit like "it represents our history, our past, and our pride"
