I also use this plastic lattice on the drop in for extra speed but the downside is less control. I personally don't recommend the orange construction fence.

If you go with turf then you need to wet it down a lot and be really efficient with your design. If you can afford M-snow, you'll probably end up with a better setup. You can also look into powderpak or snowflex.
This thread pops up all the time but I've never seen a good comparison of what is actually the best and the pros/cons of each. It'd be cool if someone tried them all and then did a comparison.
Most important in my opinion is the geometry of your setup. Bad tranny's are easily the most common mistake. You don't need a huge lip or a long flat section.
