As a math nerd, lets look at the numbers to really get an understanding of how cops are just a bunch of racist killers. I was having trouble finding data on just Baltimore, so I found it for all of the US from 2003-2009, but it should give us a good enough idea. Obviously this data isn't perfect (US vs Baltimore, how well this info is being reported), but by and large it will give us a solid picture. Source - Bureau of Justice Statistics

From 03-09 the FBI estimates that there were 98,000,000 arrests made in the US

During this time period there were 4,813 arrest-related deaths (not perfect, but gives us an idea)
That number includes deaths such as drug/alcohol related, suicides, and other types, but we can focus on the 2,931 (61%) that were ruled as homicides. Note that homicides will include 'justified' deaths, such as those that occur in a shootout

Only 31% of all arrest-related deaths were blacks (42% white) but we will look at all homicides because I don't have the arrest statistics by race (I know, not perfect data, but close enough)

So with the numbers we have, we get the following results:

0.00299% of all arrests lead to an arrest-related homicide. Remember this figure includes all races and what I consider to be 'justified' homicides where the person was shooting at the police. Therefore, that number is even smaller for the number of blacks that were killed 'for no reason'.

So just think about this- people are rioting and protesting and calling the police racist for something that happens in roughly 0.003% of arrests. So 99.997% arrests have no homicides at all, but we are going to call racism and demand reform for something that rarely happens. People are freaking out about something that almost never happens. If something works 99.997% of the time or even anything close to that number, cases where it doesn't work is an outlier, not a trend. I know these numbers are not perfect, but they are not going to be that far off given the number of arrests that occur each year, so put that into perspective before you start demanding change because of a few outliers.

Also, there were 214 civilian on civilian homicides in Baltimore in 2014, the vast majority of those were due to black on black violence. The people of Baltimore should really be more worried about killing each other and fixing that problem than the needle-in-a-hay-stack chance that they are killed by police after getting arrested.

KravtZBlack people are a general population compared to other races do the worst by far. Worst education levels, income levels, employment levels, etc the list goes on.

They like to blame everyone besides their own communities. Im so sick of hearing about there bullshit arguments on the news and how the justify rioting, acting like thugs, etc.

Freddy Gray had 20 serious arrests. He was a drug dealer and user. He was arrested mostly for narcotics arrests. He ISNT a good person as his community puts him out to be. He was a thug who somehow got killed (still not sure how the facts arent released)..that being said, It gives those disgusting savages NO RIGHT to burn down and destroy their own town. If anything, it forces business owners out and doesn't bring in new ones.

Black people have plenty of contempt for their own communities... All of them want it better, of course... The thing is, when you're born into that way of life, that's sometimes all you fucking know... Just like you. You obviously have no idea how it is to live in those places, and simply hold an opinion based on what the media's told you instead.

Do you know how to survive the streets like many people in that kinda squaller? No you do not... instead, you were able to have your mom drive you to your suburb school with low crime rate. so you learned your times tables at 7 or 8 instead of which blocks you shouldn't go down... Generally speaking, you, as a white guy, probably didn't even have to walk home from school (myself included) while many people who grow up in poor communities take public transit an hour just to get to their job shoveling shit, so to speak.. and in order to make ends meet, many of them turn to drugs as a means of putting food on the table for their kids and getting them presents at xmas..

Who cares if this guy had all those arrests... Nobody's trying to paint him as a saint... they're just saying he didnt deserve to fucking die getting his neck broken when under police custody. Simply put, something went very wrong, and all things point to police brutality. People aren't asking for you to just give them millions of dollars to do whatever the fuck they want with it... They're asking not to be treated like shit and killed by the police who profile them.

This isn't Judge Dredd... Cops only have the authority to enforce laws, not carry out punishment.

YoungDaphWho cares what the ratio of peaceful to violent protests is, doesn't change the fact that property is being destroyed and people are being hurt and guess who's tax dollars are gonna go towards fixing some of that shit and paying for the medical care of some of those people.


Guess whose tax dollars are going to the world's largest foreign and domestic military budget and the world's largest prison system.. and not to social benefits programs (education, healthcare, rehabilitation programs, etc) or anything halfway useful which could turn around the "shit hole" so many people refer to Baltimore and other cities as. When you talk about the burden of "our" tax dollars going to fixing these things, you're talking about an micro fraction of the actual revenue and problem.

It's one thing for armed gang members to be killing each other. It's another for cops - those who are supposed to be above that kind of shit, to be killing people who aren't even armed.

People in those communities sometimes trust gang members more than cops. That's a problem, and it's systemic. Plenty of blame to go around in that circumstance.

It's pretty obviously not great... but that has nothing to do with the black community like he wanted to state... Go to Russia's poor neighborhoods and you see the same thing, only they're white (and are far more inclined to stab and rape you instead)..

Pointing the finger at the poor and at minorities is the bullshit way out of answering the real questions.

Just because the people in those communities are dumb and out there killing everyone doesn't mean that there is an actual problem. I'm pretty sure statistics show there is a higher likelihood of a person being killed by a vending machine than being killed by a cop during an arrest, so are you going to never buy another candy bar? Stop trying to make outliers a trend- nothing in this world is going to be perfect 100% of the time, but I'll gladly accept 99.997% in anything.

Your statistics don't tell the whole story... It's like those dingbats who try to justify being able to own an arsenal of guns because car accidents are more likely to kill you than guns, when there's no justifiable comparison between the two.

It's not just one cop though dude... That's why this is a big deal in the first place. This shit keeps happening all over. Over. And Over. And most of the time, the cop goes off scott fuckin free, or the punishment is very minimal for the crime (it's at most, involuntary manslaughter rather than murder or anything that would put a cop away for even 5-10) it's happened for years. I'll be surprised if they find anyone guilty of anything in this case being that there's probably a total evidence coverup... People are done with it, and finally feeling empowered enough to speak out about this problem.

still, an arrest can be racially motivated (even if it's at a subconscious level) and not end in death. but it will end in court fees, time off from work, perhaps a criminal record that will prevent them from getting work in the future, etc. if a cop arrests you, even if you've done nothing wrong and will get off in court, he's already won. and a lot of times, if they do get sentenced, it's a longer sentence than a white person would receive.

Ok, I was gonna let your first BS 'I am a math geek' BS slide but you've gone too far. You clearly didn't pass stats class, and no way did you take if from me. So you think a 99.997% success rate is good eh? Well, I'm here to tell you it's shit. Absolute shitty shit. Every single day, 365 days a year there are about 30,000 commercial flights in the US. If we take your 'success' rate of arrests at 99.997% success and applied it to comm aviation ops, we would only have 90 airlines crash PER DAY!

Now, I know it's not fair to compare the arrest of people with comm aviation. To be sure, it's a lot more unpredictable. Surely commercial aviation is at least a 1000 times more reliable than an arrest. Well, ok then, I'll spot you a 1000 times improvement. A 'success' rate is now moves the bar three places to the right of decimal, or 99.999997. Would be a failure rate of 0.000003 where a plane crashes(failure). Now were down to only 1 plane crash EVERY 10 DAYS.

So, I guess what I'm trying to tell you is that your understanding of stats as a measure of success being 99.997% is really and truly crappy. If we were to compare it to another major country, like UK or France I"m betting it would at least 6 nines, and most likely a lot better than that. Think about it, over 7 years, cops have killed 4800+ people, that most likely didn't need to die.

You wonder why black people, and blacks who've been arrested before run from cops? I mean, I've only been arrested a couple of times, and I admit to being scared of the Barney's out there. Room temp IQs, badge, gun, Maryland LEO bill of rights(google it). There's no downside to murdering a guy in the back of the van. None whatsoever. They don't give a shit if they start a riot. These dingleberries go home every night safe and sound, nothing can touch a cop on duty anymore.

Our downfall started with the Rodney King verdicts. Those shit-for-brains jurors out in lilly white, super liberal Simi Valley set the whole country up for this shit, and it's coming home to roost.

my best friend's boyfriend was arrested at one of the riots for throwing a water bottle at a cop (everyone was throwing them) and he was arrested and charged with 2nd degree assault, possession of a weapon, and intent to injure. held for 48 hours.

Annnnddd its right here that your little statistical circle jerk hit a road bump. White people make up 75% of this country. White people should account for 75% of all homicide-by-police, "justified" or not.

Cops should hang until we hit that point.
Thankfully we're seeing some more real civilian-on-pig violence, and I can only pray it keeps up. Every dead cop is a useful cop.

FBGMmy best friend's boyfriend was arrested at one of the riots for throwing a water bottle at a cop (everyone was throwing them) and he was arrested and charged with 2nd degree assault, possession of a weapon, and intent to injure. held for 48 hours.

Wow he got arrested for throwing something at a police officer.... Can you guys believe that!?

or 0.33 crashes per year, which i'm betting is below the current average

therefore his success rate should be acceptable


I thought that looked awful high. Late and tired don't mix. Didn't move the decimal. However, the US carriers are far better than 0.33 crashes per year, and no, I don't think that's acceptable in either aviation or arrests.
