""Twist Test""

so not gonna say where i got this info, but i got roasted pretty good on this topic. so i heard that the "proper din" you should be at is when you can stand in your skis, and just twist your toe out of the heel piece. and if you cant do this, your din is supposedly too high.

do you guys think you should be able to do this? i feel like if this was true you wouldnt be able to actually stay in your bindings when dropping cliffs, jumps, landing switch, ect.

not trying to start a big argument, but what do you guys think? do you agree with the "twist test" or do you believe in gradually adjusting your dins to your needs until you stop pre releasing, even if you cant just stand there and force a release on your own?

The twist test is a good rule of thumb for intermdiate/advanced skiers and should be taken as exactly that.

Yea that's kind of what I thought towards the beginner and intermediate range. But fof advanced I don't know how anyone would stay strapped in

IMO if you can twist out of binding with x amount if force, just think about the forces that are going when you're landing a jump, and the tourque you put on your skis by spinning. Idk I'm no physisist but that force x is probably multiplied by a pretty decent amount. I could be wrong, just a thought

If anyone actually followed this rule, you'd pop out every time you hit a jump.

Also, you shouldnt pre-release even if your din is low say at 6, your forward pressure would probably be an issue if you were pre-releasing.

Any substantial gap onto a rail would cause a release due to the ski flexing underfoot. Also, high speed in crud or moguls.

That's what I've always thought if you can just twist your foot out it will probably come out just landing sketchy on a jump.

it should be that you nose butter as much as you can until your chest touches the floor without your skis popping off

i don't even know what the din of my bindings are. I should probably check it considering i tore my achilles with them

This is false. I had a pair of bindings set that way and every time I'd try and spin I'd twist right of my ski. All your spin leverage comes right out of that toe piece

Yea this is what I meant by "pre releasing" . I got remed out by multiple old guys on tgr for this whole "twist test" thing and they're response is that I have "weak legs" and that my din is to high hahahahahaha

I can eject my toe out of my ski, it takes a little more than just twisting my toe. I rarely pre release though, only times that happens is if somehow my forward pressure isn't right for some reason.

what din are you riding ? and i just tried this. i put the nose of my ski up against a wall or something and could not get out of more than like a 7 or 8.
