HP123Ok so I sucked it up and got an Mri about a month ago, sure enough it was a partial tear in my acl. The doctor said they do surgery if it's torn more than 50% otherwise they just let it be and that's the case for me. He said it's cool if I kept skiing on it and I did now I'm a couple weeks off the slopes and it still hurts like shit. The actual injury happened at the end of February. I dunno if I made it worse or not but its still really annoying. Should I get a second opinion on it? Do I just rehab the hell out of it (I'm trying to stay super active working and biking and skating)? Will i prob end up tearing it completely? I feel like it's too late now to get surgery and I'll be out for next season so I'm kind of fucking pissed and I don't know what to do about it. Any advice would be great thanks
Depending on your age, your partially torn ACL may heal. About 1 in 5 heal, depending on the severity of the tear and especially how old/fit you are. I'd follow your doctors advice first and foremost, but otherwise take it really easy for the next 4 or 5 months, go see a physio (I think you Americans call them Physical therapists), get some exercises and get the muscles around your knee really strong to help support it.
When I was about 12 I had a partially torn ACL and I was lucky enough to have it heal. It still doesnt have the same strength as a healthy ACL, but is certainly way better than having a reco.
