I can't decide whether to free ski with or without poles so far I haven't used any but I recently got some and cute them pretty short to where my arm is fully extended but I haven't used them yet. But I can't decide on what looks better because I really like that no pole baggy phil casabon style but I also like baggy with poles at the same time some people also say it helps with balance and I just can't make my mind up? Another thing is why are the x games announcers so anal about people having no poles literally every run "here's jossi wells with no poles" like wtf is the big deal? Does anyone have opinions/answers?
i ride with a little of both depending on my outfit for the day. i enjoy riding without poles much more and i think it adds some style if you pull it off.
Just do whatever feels best, i find that I like to ski park without poles but around the mountain they're nice to have. Often I get caught skiing around the mountain without poles on days im skiing park but its usually not a big deal.
honestly for me atleast its help me without using poles and skiing in general because it helps you balance and land tricks more smoothly but expect maybe some flappy arms for a while

That is the laziest thing I have ever heard in my life. I think 95% of people look absolutely retarded without poles. Most people aren't smooth enough or even close to being good enough to pulling off the no poles look. Plus you compromise your all mountain skiing so much if you want to venture outside of the park.

My arms move too much to use poles in the park. It's more fun for me to go no poles in the park, they can lead to stupid injuries too. If I ski outside of the park I rock poles all day, I'm a little more comfortable on jumps with poles for some reason though. If you're on the fence, use poles for a chair park, no poles for a rope park.

actually yes it is about looking cool if you cant do tricks with style then it just doesnt look good. Id say a guy that can do cork 7s and 5s really nice can make up for a guy who does sloppy dub 10s. so you are wrong in the freeski world, unless you care nothing about style.
I like poles cause it helps me stay forward in the boot by having my hands up. Been skiing without poles due to injury and I notice myself getting backseat a lot more often without them. Bumps and steep big mountain are also harder without poles.
I only use poles till I break them... Which happens too much. So unless someone gives me free poles, I'm not gonna waste my money. And whoever says carbon fiber poles don't break, That's bullshit. They break too. Trust me.

who cares how good they are, they're having fun, and that's what skiing is all about.
just do what is most fun for you and what makes you happiest
Honestly i think it depends on what your wearing. If your all baggy thugged out straight flexin on dem hoes then go no poles. But if your all tight and formal throwin down then go poles.

If you're gonna ski with mittens, you gotta do the "waterproofed gardening glove" equivalent, which is some cooking mittens that you sprayed to make waterproof. I mean, who doesn't love being able to come home and pull a toasty hot cookie pan out of the oven, since they're ALREADY WEARING MITTENS?! Whaaaaat?
I feel a lot steezier with poles. For some reason when i have poles i make myself keep my hands low. I think its because im occupied. No poles it seems like people flail a lot more
If you're in a park with a towrope like in the Midwest, no poles is the way to go, but if you're skiing outside of the park use your poles. I honestly don't know what you should do for a a park with a lift because I've never been to a park that didn't use a towrope. Livin that MN rope lyfe

But im the best skier on the mountain. I can rip the shit out of any line, poles or no poles.
no poles really doesn't compromise your skiing outside the park if you know how to ski with poles. poles are there for balance.

It was akward for me at first but I've learnt how to control my arms. Skiing without poles improved my skiing all around.
I prefer poles since I've always skied with poles, and I think I'd look pretty dumb without them, since I have more of a "classic" bag of tricks with switch ups and so on on rails.

If you look at snowboarders that are on catwalks or anything where they don't need to focus on riding, I BET you will notice at least half are fiddling with their gloves. Nobody knows what to do with their hands on a snowboard, because it just looks goofy if you're riding a cat track or something with your arms just flopping around at your sides. Easiest solution is to spend all your time pretending to adjust your glove or something.
