It's almost February. I'm seeing midseason edits everywhere.
And it feels like just yesterday was opening weekend

DeebieSkeebiesyay climate change. I saw a picture of a reservoir in truckee that is literally bone dry. its a great time to be a skier out west -___-
john18061806It's El Niño, there's no snow. This winter has sucked. It's basically a repeat of 2011-2012. Best we can hope for is a late spring and April snowstorms.
SessionMy season hasn't even started.....
Roan.there is snow in hood...unless you're hurt, your season has started.
SessionThis is where i have my pass BTW
californiagrownto all the east coasters and midwesterners saying "all you spoiled guys out west have snow, be happy for that", i offer you this analogy.
You are the ugly fat awkward kid who is used to bagging fat ugly girls. Us westerners are the tall handsome athletic, witty studmuffins who are used to bagging 9s and 10s. certainly nothing below an 8. so when we show up to a party full of 4s and 5s, we are understandably unimpressed.
Its not that we are spoiled, its that we rightfully expect conditions that are above and beyond what you East of the rockies have any right to expect.
that said, this season is fucking wack. It just hasnt showed up at all.
Lus146Dude get out of here. Midwest is the shit. Don't wanna hear your ski-snob-my-parents-own-a-huge-condo-and-I-play-football kinda attitude.

SteezySmith57whats wrong with us midwesterners being happy for what we got? we reserve the right to remain stoked over 2 inches of snow and man made snow.
DeebieSkeebiesIn places like Tahoe, its just a little bit more than having great skiing. Local economies are reliant on the tourism that the snow and skiing brings in, so when they have droughts like this, its pretty easy to see why everyone out west is pissed off. They're losing out on money, not just good skiing.
californiagrownsucks to hear the truth, huh? you all live in a shit area for what you have chosen to do as recreation. Our shit is your cream of the crop.
Don't get so butthurt over facts you don't like. its reality.
Lus146Don't hate on my location bruhh. Just cause maybe our families aren't rich like yours or that we have a lot of family or an emotional attatchment to where we live doesn't mean you can just go and judge all of use mid west/east coast skiers.

DobberI would rather ski in the Midwest than out west. I have been to Colorado and Utah several times...Missed good ol Granite Peak so much. We have a 50" base. Yes, 70% of it is man-made, but it's still a fucking blast. The people around here are awesome, the prices are low compared to Vail and Steamboat, and traveling is easy. I have more fun here than I have had anywhere else.
SessionActually that would be completely dependent on where you have your pass.

californiagrownIts not that we are spoiled,
californiagrownchubby chasers
BOGS.Better analogy:
Imagine the east coast/midwest as the unpopular kid in the school.
Then imagine the west coast as the big, popular, douchey, jock.
And one day some of the kids at school hang around the unpopular kid for once.
Roan.see, this year sucks for alaska (i have three inches of snow outside) but in 11-12 we had 9' of standing snow at my house, and alyeska (the only major resort, still 3 and a half hours away from me) was japan with almost 1000" inches of snow.

californiagrownYeah but that only occurs in high School Romcoms... and unfortunatley weather.
parkplaygroundThe fact that you aren't appreciative of the snow you get is what pisses me off. I don't give two shits about what you think you deserve because you live out west. You are in fact spoiled since you are USED to better snow, so if its not always great snow you complain, bitch, and moan. That is being spoiled, thinking you DESERVE the best. Be stoked on what you have instead of being a pretentious fuck
I also don't give a shit if you use facts to justify your reasoning. Skiing, no matter what its like, is the most fun when you make the best out of what you have I.e. east coast/Midwesterners.
I also realize I quoted the wrong reply but whatever you did, whether you are trolling or being serious, succeeded in making me butthurt.
DrailYou guys aren't getting it. The mountains where I ski take about a 150cm base before things start to fill in properly to the point we can ski them. We aren't unappreciative of the snow we get more so we aren't getting the snow we need. I grew up in Ontario and you don't even need snow to fall there - you just need cold temps and boom, you're in business. The past two years Blue Mountain, Ontario has had a longer season than most hills in BC.
Combine that with the temperature spikes we have gotten in BC/PNW this year and shit gets really shitty. All but one storm that has come through this winter has a warm spike at the tail end resulting in rain to the top of the mountains - which sucks. Of course, it wouldn't be SO bad if we didn't get a cold, dry snap after that which freezes everything making most terrain unskiable and makes for a dangerous layer avalanche wise for when the next storm comes.
Simple fact is that things are different in the mountains and when are used to having amazing skiing with amazing snow, it's a harsh toke when we are pretty much on standby for months on end. Yeah sure, my local hill has a base of 170cm right now, but nothing is skiable (in bounds, or out). If all you care about it groomers and park it's not so bad, but we don't live in the PNW/BC to ski groomers. Hell, the closest park that is worth riding is almost 5 hours away, and if I had to resort to ski groomers all winter I'd rather go to Mexico and hang out at the beach.
WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID: I have been around for enough winters to not really stress about the weather: You gotta roll with the punches. I'm just bringing clarity to what is being said here.

parkplaygroundThat makes sense. Thanks for the clarification and explaining without the arrogance that calliforniagrown was radiating. and I'm not talking about this year specifically. Californiagrown seemed to, from my understanding, complain about any weather that isn't regularly bringing in the freshies. I have family that lives in steamboat and since they were originally east coasters, they know what real ice is and I hear a lot about how spoiled the people out there are, so I'm not ranting purely off of assumption, or atleast not trying to anyway.
ski-hippiethat huge blizzard in the east coast is missing western NY. Im so pissed. Theres no snow in the trees. We need to sacrifice bfish to the snow gods
