If you think Candide wouldn't put on some GS skis and tear shit up, then I don't know what to say. While Jon CAN do everything in skiing, I'd be willing to put money on the fact Candide could do it better.

Candide is really small. he would be very slow on a race course. Physics. Learn it.

Also, i have never seen candide in AK-type terrain. Im talking about Martian looking 2000ft, 60 degree spine walls with 40ft bergschrunds at the bottom. Actually, no one has. Cause he's never done it. Not to say he couldn't; but no one know how he would look.

Jon has a major weakeness (in a relative sense) with backcountry lines. I think he only had his first heli-accessed line a couple of years ago

none of us should care about racing anyway. thats a silly argument. I care about his ability to maintain control in moguls at 70mph into massive stepups.. that speaks for itself.

Candide has won halfpipe, slopestyles, big airs, moguls, rail jams, Red bull linecatcher (big mtn jumps), swatch freeride world tour. When you say he hasnt been on AK spines, i would argue beating out the best big mtn skiers in the world (who do ski ak lines) on one of the most burley peaks tells me that he would not have a problem ripping the fuck out of a plush ak spine.

It's possibly ironic that we use event results to justify someone as the worlds best freestyle skier when freestyle was really developed as the F you to such competitions.

But, hell yeah, he's arguably the best and most fluid and his "Just Another Day" edits may just be retribution for competing in The Man's organized competitions.

People will post in here about him not dipping into an aspect of skiing but that's bogus.

Show me proof of someone dominating as long and as hard as he is/has.

And the best part? He really doesn't seem to give a fuck. He'll ski until the day he dies and the rest of the skiing community will sit and watch

He won the Freeride World Tour. Pretty sure skiing steep, rocky, shitty hardpack and beating the world's best would mean he would smash an AK spine like I smash beers on a sunny day.

agreed. and while that's (mild) speculation and projection, i think the case for him being the best skier is pretty solid because it's really hard to name another skier who is more well rounded than him. yeah, olsson has the racing part that he doesnt but olsson doesnt do much in big mtn (always wondered why though..) and wasnt as good on rails even back in the day. tanner is close.

other than that, who would you pick? the best big mtn guys either could or have done well in racing, but theyre not even close to "excellent" in park and probably moguls. and obviously the best racers are absolute beasts who could transfer their skills to most other skiing aspects but again, wouldn't have a prayer in park/rails etc

For the record Jon won a big mtn comp ten years ago, some Sweedish national event. And Candide raced as a youngling.

Candide gets the nod. If his lines in kandide camera 1&2 along with few words aren't convincing enough of big line prowess (never mind the freeride world tour champ) then you have issues.

oh and I put Sammy and Tanner ahead of Jon too (because of their progression in pow)

Why is this even a question? Go watch few words and try to tell me that a few of those lines he hikes and skis are not on the same caliber as something you would find in Alaska or northern BC. Just because it wasn't actually in Alaska, doesn't make it any less gnarly

I've seen all of these movies and edits multiple times.

I will repeat, Candide has never skied, on film, any of those martian looking 2000' 60degree spine walls with massive bergschrunds that ONLY Alaska provides. Its generally just the TGR boys and a select few others that can, and do it at mach chicken.

He doesn't have to be the best at every facet of skiing to be the best overall skier.

He has never skied what I described. Anyone car to prove me wrong?

I don't think anyone is saying he has skied what you've described, but rather people are saying that it's not a big stretch to assume he wouldn't have too many issues on that kind of terrain.

I agree. However people are saying he has skied that stuff. Not the case. Tanner has skied, on film, that is what im talking about.

I just think Candide is too shy/reserved to join up with a TGR like crew that will take him to AK and show him the ropes. He hasn't pursued that kind of terrain for whatever reason...probly is having enough fun already haha

Candide is like a fine French wine. He is just gonna keep getting better and better. I am so excited to see what the future brings us, perhaps he will dabble in snollerblading and be the first to hit Chads on blades......... Whatever direction he takes his skiing I know it will be fun to watch. I used to watch his seggy in Royalty on repeat. Def my favorite of all time.

It also depends on how we define "best." Is best, as you said, the most well rounded skier, like Tanner, Jon, or Candide, or is it someone who rips significantly harder than everyone else everywhere except one or two areas like any world cup level racer would?

It also isn't a big stretch to assume that a world cup racer would be able to translate their skills to powder and big mountains as well or better than a guy like Candide would. Just look at guys like Daron Rahlves and Jeremy Nobis who went from the U.S. Ski Team to ripping AK lines really, really quickly. I also think many racers would do better in the park than people may think, the air sense and body control required to hit those downhill jumps at mach 10 would probably make learning to hit park kickers pretty easy. You hear stories about Bode doing some advanced stuff in the park. They probably wouldn't be as good as the very best jumpers, but it wouldn't be that surprising if some world cup racers were able to learn to hit park jumps at a high level pretty quickly. Rails are, obviously, a different story, as they don't really relate to any of the skills required to be a strong racer.

Because not many kids on this site know of how legendary he is. Just look at threads about Candide before his Kamera and POV edits came out... about %90 of the idiots on this site were claiming he sucks, he's washed up, he's not even comparable to Jon or Tanner, etc.

NS is like the stock market. A skier's "worth" is not based on facts but rather ignorant speculations. Now that these edits came out, I bet you'll find more than one stupid SOB in this thread praising him as the best but was trashing him before.

its funny you are talking out of your ass cali... i have been with candide while filming kameras 1&2, and Few Words, and have personally witnessed him killing it everywhere. in Few Words, it was at the tail end of the season in BC, the snow was shit, and he still sent three huge backflips off the spines, down a huge face in a single run. not to mention being with him in verbier, and how he crushed the bec with conditions way more dangerous than AK, ie... sketchy tracked out snow
