So Ive decided on a new set of skis. Ski Logik Rockstars. 117 underfoot, bit of camber underfoot, tip and tail rocker and a 14m turn radius no matter what length you get. Basically a pow jib ski. Very similar to Armada JJ's or Magic J except a bit stiffer and turner. Im set on this because its exactly what I'm looking for and I can get good pro-form pricing.
Anyways, the conundrum is that I can't decide between 178 and 188.
Im a smidge shy of 6 feet but I'm only 150-155 pounds and from past experience I would prefer something right in the middle of those two sizes for a pow ski of this shape. I would like the additional stability of the 188 at speed and for hucking (my favorite thing to do) but I'm getting into 3's, 5's and backflips off of cliffs and such as opposed to in the park and I feel like 178's would be easier to pull around. Ive also never skied something with this much tip and tail rocker but I do know they would ski quite a bit shorter. But just because a 188 skis short doesn't mean they're any easier to learn flips and spins on. Im starting to do some backcountry stuff and I imagine the weight difference in the shorter option would be helpful getting up the hill. I also ski a ton of tight summit county trees and so a 178 might make that a bit easier. I also doubt the difference in float would be very noticeable considering the girth and rocker and how light I am. But I have no doubt that I could rip on the 188's as my current pow ski is Ninthward NGP 190cm 115 underfoot with no rocker at all, and i ski anything on them but they're so damn heavy and I rarely even throw 3's on them (even though they're almost the same size, the NGP is considerably heavier). Both sizes have so many pros and cons and i honestly don't know what to do. Sorry if its a bit nitpicky I just don't have much money and I really want to drop it on the right choice.
Opinions and insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys!
