Need All-Mountain Suggestions...

Afternoon everyone. I decided I finally to buy my own set up, and not use hand me downs, loaners, rentals, and need some advice.

About me: My name is A.J. I am 30 years old (Feel like an old man around these parts), and would consider myself a solid Intermediate skier, bordering on Advanced. 5'11", 175-180 lbs. Got back into skiing last year with 10-15 days. I am looking for something all mountain, as I ski east coast (Usually Blue, Creek, or Shawnee) and depending on whats busy, is where Ill go (Park, groomers, maybe some black diamonds depending on where). I learned to slide a box last year pretty proficiently, and wanted to work on that some, jump, but be able to go on a trail with no issues. Looking to go out to Winter Park, CO this winter if that adds anything to the equation.

I am looking to get out the door all told (Boots Bindings and Skis) for $800. Could stretch a bit more if the boots are amazing or made for my feet or something.

Anyone have any suggestions or guidance?

And anyone in NJ, where do you recommend for ski shops?

Skis: I would say shreditor 102 in 184.
Bindings: can't go wrong with the Rossi fks
Boots: Go to your local ski shop and get fitted

spend your money on boots, if they suck you're going to have no fun. If you have to rent skis one more year because you blew budget on boots, look at it as an excuse to demo so you get a better idea of what you want for your own skis.

for bindings, I don't follow the gear trade over here as much, but Salomon 912 and 914 have been showing up on TGR for 50-75 bucks. They are still great bindings and indemnified, similar to the sth before they were redesigned last season. sth bindings, not the sth2, are also very cheap due to the redesign, you should be able to find them new online for under $150. I would imagine you can find a cheap set of griffons as well. Rossi fks/look pivots are excellent, but unless you find a good deal they are $$$.

for skis, everyone will tell you something different and you will be happy with most of them, my first thought was a line chronic. a shreditor is super fun off piste, but is not a very inspiring carver on the groomed.

two solid posts above. Get your boots first, a bad pair of boots will kill a day of skiing. In terms of skis look into the line chronic or volkl kink. Two skis that will do what you do, bindings wise, put like a griffon or STH on it. As stated above you can get a good binding for less that 200 bucks, check out tetongravity.com for good deals on skis and bindings, it's another ski forum like newschoolers. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Going to go poke around my local shop to see whats there, and I will keep what everyone said in mind.

Ill update when I know more.

102 is a good ski. Also take a look at batalla all Mtn twins.

Just fyi..you can go wrong with fks. The brakes can have problems and are very expensive to fix. For bindings go with STH2 or attack depending on budget
