Mr_OrangeI don't see how kids in the states afford to go to college. SHits way too expensive if you're family isn't well off you have to take out a rediculous loan that you'll be paying back for the next 20 years. Meaning you pretty much have to have steady employment at all times following your education... meaning.. haha no travelling for you dickweed.
I'm from Alberta, Canada I pay about $10,000/ year for tuition and I'm pretty sure the amount that our education is subsidized is the lowest of all provinces.
Thought I had it rough.... you poor... "free" souls.
stickskiI pay around 6 grand a year to go to my university in the states... 'Merica

TOAST.Sure I dont get the "college experience" but I dont care at all.
TOAST.For a semester or a year? If thats a year that is really cheap.
There are plenty of ways to get a college education without going in a significant amount of debt. I chose to live at home and commute to school to save a shit ton of money. Sure I dont get the "college experience" but I dont care at all. Get to ski almost everyday as well in the winter.

Mr_OrangeReally? I've heard $20,000+ from Americans I've talked to... Actually theres a few kids I've met in my program from texas. They came abroad to Canada because it's cheaper even as an international student than it would have been for them to go to school back home.
hughlorinthe kids you talked to are probably attending big name/out of state schools. that's where college gets expensive. in state public universities are generally a lot cheaper than out of state or private universities. UNR's tuition is only $5000 (although room and board is around $10,000, but scholarships really help cut down the price.) a lot of people (at least that I know) are 'too good' to go to an instate, public university and feel as though they aren't going to get a decent education anywhere they didn't spend 20k+ a year on.
joke's on them, I'll be graduating with no debt and skiing tahoe every damn day.
snobunnyIts still expensive and requires loans for most if you're paying for it on your own. How are you graduating debt free? Are your parents paying for some, or do you just have a decent job? Tuition for me was like $5600/semester, plus about $300 for books. So 6k/semester. Tuition alone, though. Also, since I went to summer school, I also paid 6k in the summer. But at 12k/year for tuition alone, over four years is still $48,000.00.

omnidataThese issues have given me a growing sympathy for my socialist state.
The tuition fee for any university is ~1800 euro a year, (but there's a loan for for that (that you can pay back over 30/40 years without interest))
And as a student you can get around a 1000 bucks a month, partly loan (same rules apply as above) and partly a gift if you finish your degree.
Although that gift part has recently changed because the labour party decided to suddenly be less socialist and not care.
Then again living in most Dutch university city's is rather expensive. 600 euro's for a 30 feet room in Amsterdam with a toilet shared by forty other people is more rule then exception.

sammykgood luck to anyone actually trying to retire that doesn't go to college.
Bum it now = regret it when you are 40 and can't ski like you can now.
theabortionatorThe problem in the US really isn't the government not paying for everything(as if the govt has magic money stashes anyway) but the them getting involved. Right now in the US anyone can borrow absurd amounts of money to go to school thanks to these loans being government backed. Instead of helping people it's fucking them over imo. Colleges can charge whatever the hell they want and people can borrow tons of money to attend those schools. Keeping a job during school isn't even necessary. You can just borrow like crazy. Then if you get out of school with even a good degree you have a heap of debt to overcome. IF you graduate with a shit degree or drop out you're pretty much fucked.
There isn't really any incentive to cut costs as there is a steady stream of people heading to college regardless of the price.
snobunnywhere are these gov loans that give you massive amounts? I applied for the gov loans and they were like 2500 tops for someone with my household income or something. I ended up with a private student loan. I just remember the gov loans were pathetic and didn't cover anything.
Thizzle.I'm paying for my 150% of in state tuition at Montana State almost entirely with government loans and grants.

last_tangoAttended a half of a semester at a community college. Was relearning the same shit in high school. I ended up saying fuck that I'm going skiing instead and not getting absurd amounts of debt.

Thizzle. The first semester of any college anywhere is relearning high school shit. If you didn't have the foresight to look ahead to the more advanced classes, knowledge, and skills you would gain then you probably should never have started. Obviously college isn't for everyone but just saying, basically the whole first year is intro shit and most people know that going in to it.
acualywasdolanYoski you didnt go or are not going to harvard. You have changed your story so many times you must be a fucking 85 iq jackass to think anybody still believes you.
