Week In Europe

A little background, Ill be graduating from college here soon, and before I start my career I want to take a trip across the pond. My brother and I are planning to make the trip, were 22 and 23, and really only have a week to dedicate to the trip, I could probably stay longer and prolong getting a job but I may miss out of some good opportunities back home.

I've never been to Europe, and I understand from reading older posts and testimonials that it is FAR more fun and beneficial to stay in one country for a longer amount of time, than to skip from place to place over a short amount of time. While I would love to see all of Europe and dedicate a month or so to the trip I just can't right now.

We're not the site seeing/touring types. but that's not to say if we come across some in our travels that we won't stop. We're more interested in having a general good time, food, wandering, markets, booze, and nightlife things of that nature. A place that's popping with markets in the day and good for bars at night.

So my question is, if you could choose one country to visit in Europe over a week (7 Days) where would it be? And why? Tips, places, reasons would be awesome! What cities would you recommend in that particular country, and how would you go about getting back and forth from those cities.

We have been thinking Italy would be a great place to go to if we were going to stay in a single country. I have heard all the major cities like Rome, Venice, Florence, and Milan all are really great. Plus I see that you can take a fairy from venice to croatia which would be cool for a day maybe. We'd probably be staying in hostels or sleeping on the trains in between cities at night. It's all a lot to think about considering I don't have any friends or relatives that have taken a trip like this.

Any info/advice would be awesome!

I'd recommend you look into doing a Yacht Week trip in Croatia or Greece. Both are awesome countries that are relatively very cheap, and the Yacht Week trip would be an awesome way to see the country, party, meet people from several different parts of the world and consolidate all your expenses into one effort.

If that's out of the question, Italy is great but keep in mind it's not a tiny country and traveling around even just that country can eat up a good portion of a week and some valuable funds. I'd recommend trying to nail down 2 regions/cities and spending 3 days in each. I'd also recommend looking into specific activities so you don't waste time wandering the streets when you might want to be doing something else. Italy has some pretty sweet places by the sea if you're into that, and the north is mountainous and beautiful.

You can book flights really cheap, I think my friends used ryanair in Germany. Another option is train passes, with some you can go to any country, at any time, just make sure you make reservations if you need to,

As far as places to go, the trip you have planned out looks awesome. Italy is really cool, but if you aren't into the touristy stuff/sightseeing, there are places to have more fun. You won't be able to get into any of the stuff without a tour (unless you want to wait 6 hours in line). Venice is really cool, but you might feel somewhat limited.

I really liked Prague, wish I made it to Budapest. We would spend the days walking around the city, going into random churches or whatever we felt like, and then go clubbing at night. Amsterdam is cool, I've been twice, but if you are going for 1 week, I think you would have more fun somewhere else.

Markets and food are great in France, Switzerland, and parts of Germany. Munich has some awesome beer halls, beautiful countryside, you could go around to all sorts of cool things around town for a few days, then go to garmische-partenkirchen or mittenwald for hiking etc. Both are very small towns about 1-1.5 hours away from Munich.

No matter what you choose, you will have a blast, and feel free to ask questions about these or other places, or specifics once you get a solid location/agenda.
