Anyone ever get shit like this?

So I had to write an essay about the most memorable moment in my life and I wrote about going to Breck last year and after getting it back my teacher asked about my skiing history and I told him I skied since I was 3 but I just got into park skiing 3 years ago and that's what i've focused on the past few seasons and he said "ahhh, that's why you do so bad in my class." I have a B in his class and other than that I get all A's. Anyone ever get the whole "Oh you're a skier( or snowboarder, skater, BMXer... pretty much any extreme sport) you must be really dumb?" kind of shit?

i'm not insinuating anything about anyone's intelligence if they're a skier, but i have always noticed that a lot of skiers i know who are also college students give notably less of a fuck about their schoolwork than i do. that being said, i'm incredibly dedicated to my education as other on here probably are, but i do think there is some negative connotation that comes with the relationship between school and skiing since the ski season is generally when most schools are in session. idk. that teacher is a dick for saying something like that with no pretense.

hahah this is exactly why i have been taking more and harder classes in the fall and fewer easier classes spring semester all throughout college. i know myself well enough to know im going to skip school to ski unless i absolutely cant miss class

There is a common misconception that all skiers and snowboarders etc. are dumb and have bad grades. Personally you can choose not to give a fuck about your grades and just focus on skiing. Or, you can have a balance between the two which is what some people still need to learn. If you have a day off and can go skiing but have a big test or exam the next day, maybe go skiing for a bit then study. There is a way to do both.

Oh and go tell you teacher to go fuck himself because you are able to balance grades and skiing!

I did one year of school and then moved to the mountains for 7 years. Now im back in school. I have made it so i only go 2 days a week in Denver (8am to 9pm) and then sleep on couches in the mountains 4 or 5 days a week. Its pretty tits schedule.

I finished high school with ok grades, probably averaging 65-70% in most classes. I became a year round ski bum for 10 years, drank heaps of beers, skied more days than the majority of people and smoked the finest of cheeba. Then I bailed from that lifestyle, went to university and now I have almost finished my law degree. Yet when I tell people that I will soon be a lawyer I receive the 'What?! You?!' response. Somehow skiing doesn't equal an expectation of intelligence. Shits weak.

It's not because you ski it's because you try to write about skiing in class when it's really not a worthy subject for most assignments. No teacher cares about how super fun it was for you to go skiing, instead with a prompt like that they're looking for you to challenge yourself and come up with something interesting and deep. Writing about skiing is often the easy way out of an assignment and teachers can tell

Had a social assignment on a creation that has changed our lives. I choose skiing and almost failed bacause my teacher said there was no way it affected me that much. Apparently basketball and hickey are more important.

My friend and I had this talk the other day and we were talking about how society and the system work.

I see it this way, the "natural"/"normal" path that "everyone" should follow is: go to school, get a good education and degree, get a good job, raise a family, etc...
This is the path that is set by society and anyone who strays from it is seen as an outcast, and labeled as "dumb" or "not going to be successful" and the like. What those people, don't realize is that those of us who choose sports or athletics or whatever over education just have different goals and passions. If you look at many professional athletes some of them have never gotten a college education, but make more money than those who will receive a degree and are also more "successful" in their respective sports.

Basically if someone is passionate about a sport then they make that their priority and they try to do it big in that sport and become successful at that, and they will spend time with people that have common interests as them so therefore they don't need the "higher education" because it doesn't matter to them because they won't talk about it with anyone or need it in their lives.

With this being said, do what makes you happy and follow your dreams and passions. Don't worry about what others think. If you're dream is to be a pro freeskier and win golds then do it. Drop school and go do it big. When you win the olympics, look back at your life and think to yourself, "am I happy?, Do I regret anything?". Some people become successful surgeons and publish works and new findings and win prizes and do it big in the medical field. Others, perhaps a physicist, discovers some theory and changes the world, well he's a successful physicist then. But you, well if you win gold I think it's safe to say you're a succesful skier and have done it big.

P.S. This is just my opinion and I understand there could be many counterarguments made, but don't troll. I'm just contributing to the thread, and sharing my view.
