I hate what skiers call flat-spins. They aren't, grabbing japan while doing a backflip and looking over a shoulder doesn't make a flat spin.

I can't find a video of a skier doing a flat spin because it just doesn't exist. At about 6:15 chris does a true flat spin. He is almost perfectly parallel to the ground, or flat.

I haven't seen it, most of the "flat spins" I see are whack flips. I haven't seen one parallel to the ground on skis, I would love to be proved wrong though.

95% of "flatspins" in edits are wackflips. In one of the blackpark edits from last year JDSM (?) did a true flatspin. Very rare sight and they look so unique (no mixing up with a rodeo, as is often done with wackflips). Real dub flats are almost nonexistent though.

That was switch dub whack flip. We like to call the ones thrown forward switch dub flat because it's like a sw dub rodeo without the 180, so sw dub flat 7. Whackflips are like backflips so they stay the same. Our system is weird.

At this point in skiing what some of you call "whack flips" have been called flatspins for so long that's what they are, there are some people who can get much more flat but flat spin has become a blanket term for all of those axes. This would be like me saying that a switch up wasn't a true switch up because you spun 170º instead of 180º, it's stupid, pointless and makes people hate you.

No. You're so fucking wrong. JF Cusson did real flat spins on jumps way back in the fucking day that were dope as shit. Freeze had trick tips with sequences of this that maybe you need to go back and read. A flat spin is a flat spin. Dave Crichton popularized the alley oop flat in the pipe and that trick has not changed axis since.

An off axis back flip is now called a wack flip (out of spite for trying to call it a flat 3) but it should not be called a fucking flat 3. They are different tricks. Andy Mahre does real flat 3s. Watch IDEA. There are different names because there are different tricks and we need to differentiate between them.

Everyone calls it a flat 3 because of Pete Olenicks wack flip in Freeskier article about his sled skiing mission in Colorado back in 05ish. Fuck Freeskier and fuck the thought that a trick can change names because of ignorance when it is being named after an axis.

There is nothing wrong with doing a wack flip. Just know that it is not a flat spin.

Now let's get back on topic and give this guy props for doing a switch dub lincoln!

eh, usage dictates meaning, a wack flip is generally called a flatspin and has been for years. The name didn't get changed because of ignorance it got changed because that's what it started to be called, do you get mad when someone calls what was originally called a DJ flip when jon did them gets called a dub cork 12?

Kang and dub flat 9 are used interchangeably, I usually call it a kang cause it's just easier to say.
