Help me recover a Mashed Potatoes episode

So I just finished making a new episode and I accidentally replaced the file with one by the same name. Does anyone know how to get the original file back, if thats even possible?
I'm a macbook pro. +k for help of course.

For all intents and purposes, it's pretty much impossible. It's why you back up.

If you just happen to be a computer scientist, then there is a small chance you can recover it.

The same thing happened to me awhile back with two clips with the same name from different cameras. I torrented this software http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php and actually managed to get mostly everything back which I found really impressive. But from what I gather I think it can be kind of hit-and-miss so I wouldnt get your hopes too high.

Don't you have automatic backups ? I know that when I work in premiere pro or after effects, every half hour or so it saves the project and creates a new file in a folder called something like automatic-backup or something like that.

If you don't have any backups the recovery program will probably find your file on your hard drive !!!

I wasn't using an adobe product for editing and I haven't been able to fins any backup folders.

what are you using? pretty sure every NLE has an autosave folder somewhere. In premiere its called Autosaves. In Avid its called the attic. Not sure about Final Cut but I'm sure it does.

I ended up just re-editing the episode. I'll post it tomorrow morning.
