Sad day to hear that the brand is closing its doors. They made solid product and put together one of the cleanest teams out there.

Ys very sorry for the confusion i live in canada and i got the email from Allan yesterday saying that he was closing up shop and once i saw this thread i assumed it was for the whole company. My Bad sorry guys, id like my karma back.. haha

I ask before getting them and pretty much half of the comments were like that..... Have you tried them..... And thats no even close to the true performance i have one of them just for this winter in breck! And they hold really good not to say the have some really good sizes!

It is fat-ypus CANADA that is going out.

I apologize now if you got more than one of this email. It is truly my last attempt at marketing my skis. I am closing fat-ypus Skis Canada.

It has been a long haul with a lot of great times along the way. I put a lot of time, money and effort into making Fat-ypus available to Canadians but it turns out I needed more than I could spare and I spared more than should. Five seasons in and I have to close my doors. It's a sad day for me but it was a great learning experience and a great time. The business was not successful simply because my pockets were not deep enough to finance the business plan as it needed to be run. I am convinced with the right plan, the right financing and enough time the brand will be a huge success here in Canada as it is in the US and Europe.

I don't know about the US, but I've been to many resorts in Europe in the last 5 years and I have never seen a pair of Fat-ypus.

I kinda liked the brand, mainly because Delorme used them, but that I'm afraid that "I am convinced with the right plan, the right financing and enough time the brand will be a huge success here in Canada as it is in the US and Europe." is already partially true. It has the same success in Canada than in Europe... none.

They are just Epic Planks. Epic Planks who has folded. The Batalla guys will at the most give it a go one more season before they go out of business themselves.

I wanted a pair of L-Toros or G-Butters but the pricing for Canadians was so high it was almost silly, especially in Calgary where Icelantics, built in the same factory, are common, easy to get and fairly cheap, so we could either pay 800 bucks for some G-Butters or a little over 500 for some Danollies, or normal pricing for almost every brand so the choice was clear. Can you explain the really high prices for Canadians?

Never got a chance to ride a pair so I cant speak from that point of view. But from a consumer standpoint they started with a rediculously useless ski for the average person and I think that really carried with them in their name brand throughout their time as a company. If someone said fatypuss skis to me, the first thing to come to mind was those maaassive skis they first made.

If it true about Epic Planks not really that surprising they started to stack a team a little to fast for a new company, as well taking that team on ski trips. Seemed like a lot of big budget moves right out of the gate which isn't the best way to get the ball rolling imo.

if you hadn't heard about armada before the JJ came out then you either weren't skiing before that or were living under a rock. Armada was on the forefront of the newschool scene 3-4 years after the first 1080 came out, and was created and endorsed by the best skier in the game.

Why would you make a thread with a company you know nothing about? Fatypus is still making some of the best skis and has no plans of "closing its doors". Talk to someone affiliated with the company before trying to start silly rumors.
