2014 FIFA World Cup

We are 100 days out of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

I'm pretty excited. Even though USA is in a group of death if we can make it out we have a good shot of going beyond the first round of elimination. We've got a strong team and a good chance of doing better than any other cup.

I will be shocked if the US makes it out of the group stages.

Germany or Spain should make the final. Both have mastered youth development.

I'm pulling for Belgium once the USA doesnt make it out of their round. But it doesn't matter because Spain's just gonna keep rolling through international competitions.

A win or draw over Portugal and Ghana is not unreasonable. If the US can play well those two games and get out of that group they might have a shot at doing better this year.

Can't wait for the World Cup this year!

What's with all the Americans being for Dutchland?

Also I can't see Orange get very far, we might have the largest supply of quality attackers and midfielders in this country but the defence is as weak as sheet of wet blotting paper.

if the US gets out of their group stage (which is a big "if"), we will play the winner of group H which is likely Belgium. Belgium will be very very good this year. It's really too bad for the US, this is one of the more skilled teams we've ever had

Why the US won't make it out of the group:

Germany, incredible squad no doubt top 4 best teams in the world

Portugal, the US defense has no chance to stop Ronaldo from scoring multiple times

Ghana, after the last two world cups...I don't think I need to say more


That said, I really hope I'm wrong. I'm beyond stoked for this years world cup, going to be a lot of quality matches.

And In all fairness, and not to disrespect the U.S. fans, this is the group of death only for the US. Group D (Uruguay/ Italy/ Costa Rica/ England) is much worse and the actual Group of Death considering the outcome is unpredictable and one big country will be left out.

the last 2 world cups mean absolutely nothing in relation to this one. we have a new coach who has brought an entirely new philosophy to the team, and a better overall team than in the past 2 world cups.

unfortunately i agree with pretty much everything else you said. Portugal isn't all that special aside from Ronaldo, but after watching him make Sweden's world-class defense look silly I don't have much hope for our own back 4

the draw was such a disappointment, as literally any other group we would have been fine in. Our team has a ton of potential, it's a shame we have to face such absurd opponents so early

They seemed to be the fan favorite in 2010 so I guess it rolls over to 2014. They were sure fun to watch four years ago.


Also I have an expectation of quality gifs from you this World Cup like the last.

oh I know we are a better team, but no matter how good we are Ghana has destroyed our hopes and dreams the last two times. Pretty ironic we are in their group again.

True, but we play them third and if they win the first two games they may rest some of their better players

"No chance" is a bit of an overstatement. It will be tough, obviously, but if Ronaldo has a bad day, or we manage to shut him down, Portugal don't have many other scoring threats. Their defense is very strong, though.

What happened in the last two world cups is irrelevant. That was 4 and 8 years ago. Means nothing. I hate when people bring up old soccer stats as if they matter.

yah i know. just stating the fact i think he looks like a goob and yet i am still pulling for the dutch. i honestly dont have a team in the world cup i root for. i side with the US out of patriotism, but am not as invested in world soccer. i just love the world cup, so much good soccer. im french so our glory days are in the past. still hoping for a decent showing, after how they scraped into the world cup i hope they can better that. zidane 2018!

The US does not deserve to make it out of group stage. They are overrated. The groups of death has Uruguay, England, and Italy.

By no means am I a Colombia fan, but I feel intrigued by them.

Here is by bracket filled out. There are some tough choices in there, and this will not be 100% accurate. But sad to say and the way theses brackets are set up, it will be another Germany vs. Spain final like the Euro in 08. I have always been rooting for Germany, and my winning choice is not a blind fan just thinking his team is going to win. Most of Germany's team is built up of Bayern Munich players, and FCBM has been absolutely murdering the bundes liga the past two years, along with the champions league. They are young for the most part but have the playing style of a team that has been together for decades. And yes I root for the US, but hey lets be realistic guys.... Either way I am so stoked for this world cup to start, always an exciting time to see Americans give a shit about soccer for a few weeks every 4 years... and to conclude, I was a huge fan of the Budweiser house going on during the last WC. Thought that was a crazy cool idea that they did and hopefully they do it again.

They have attacking threats, but no reliable goal scorers besides Ronaldo. Not sure what's so ignorant about that statement. They do have a strong defense though.

And the u.s. doesn't deserve to get out of their group? What does that mean? The teams that deserve to get out will be the teams that play the best when the time comes. If the u.s. manages to beat Ghana and Portugal or tie Portugal and Germany, why shouldn't they deserve to go through? Saying the u.s. don't deserve to get out of their group is probably more ignorant than anything anyone else has said so far.

Go look up Portugals squad please. The US doesn't deserve to make it out because they're not good enough. Simple as that. Every team that has made it through before did not necessarily deserve it.

So if the US somehow slows down Ronaldo, Klinsmann fends off Germany, and they beat Ghana, they don't deserve to make it out? I don't see how you can say they don't deserve to make it out of the group. (Not saying that any of this will happen, but its not impossible)

If they play better than their opponent, they deserve it.

Let's be realistic here. They're not going to get enough points unless they get a lucky call or fluke goal. Sure it is entirely possible for them to win fairly, but the chances that happens are slim. USMNT is not a high level team. They need to start developing talent and not athletes.
