Can progression end?

Triple corks seem to be the norm now, and quads are probably going to happen at some point. Is there a point where the human body cant physically withstand the sport anymore? How big can jumps get and how much can we spin/flip? When is the line drawn?

I agree, eventually it will just become repetitive and boring I think. It'll become a competition of whoever can spin and flip more, when instead, it should be about creativity and being unique

It will be a sad day if the sport loses its intensity and growth. However, I think if there is a "limit" People will attempt those tricks with new and different styles.

Ride or die... once we start going even bigger we are going to need larger features where the consequences are much higher, I think once death and worse injuries becomes more present than it already is in the sport than people will focus on progressing creativity instead of technicality and size of features/tricks.

On the contrary, eventually it will be the exact opposite of what you predict. Obviously, at a certain point, the jumps in a slopestyle course can't feasible be made any bigger because of physics, logistics, and other reasons. At that point there will be degrees of spinning and number of flips that are possible on jumps that size because, again, physics, and once we hit this maxed out point and everyone can do the same number of flips and spins, it will be all about who can bring something new to those flips and spins, and who can make it look the best. In short, creativity, and through creativity, progression.

The day that a single flip wins big air at x games will be the day progression will change. It's always been who can spin the most but I'm excited for the who can tweak the most or who make their trick look the best.

I think it'll top out at quads. And then we will revisit the style aspect. I still think that a super stylish triple with the right rotation would look sick. They're a little hucked now, but give it another season or two.

Now there is tripple corks forward and switch, but i think the butterdub forward and switch beats the "normal" tripples. And the butter tripple takes the cake atm.
Then there will be switch butter trips, airpretzels, then perhaps normal quads and then dub-airpretzels.

That's my prediction.

Nah I'm just playing I just see that said every other day on this site. But it's a good opinion to have, personally I'd like to see weird and new axis' and rotations like that one flat 3 to cork 7 someone posted a few months ago on the water ramps. I wanna see shit get weird.

Ok heres how it goes There will Always be skier that ski comps and enjoy doing it, there will always be skiers that star in films and enjoy doing it,there will always be old timers who hate on progression in the Olympics and enjoy doing it there Is always be the all timers to look at progression and think it is a good thing and well enjoy doing it they were always be a newscoOleres thread saying that we've hit the wall of progression and people continue to throw their opinions about the future out therE and will unfortunately enjoy doing it I don't know if you guys have noticed a trend but things stay the same and will always stay the same or for however long skiing stayS sport it will continue to progress and pretty much all aspects yes one person can only do so many flips and jump so high but there so many axis is that we haven't even exploredn even not with the ones we have they haven't been progressed Fully when was the last time you saw triple bio? Exactly my point is there's still so much room for progression and I think skiing will continue to progress beyond what we can even imagine look at where we were 10 years ago did any of those guys ever think that we would one day be doing triples of a hundred foot jumps?

I really think if people were to start doing wizard tricks and super laid out stuff or maybe futurespins off rollers, they could have good potential in winning but thats not what judges look for.

Eventually progression is going to plateau, it's inevitable. That being said, there are still many tricks to be done, but the human body can only take so much before it just gets to dangerous. Quads are going to happen, but a jump that you can quadruple flip has to be gargantuan. Your body can only take so much, if you knuckle or overshoot a quadable jump, your going to get fucked. I think the tricks are just going to get ridiculously tech, take Gus for example. Gus is dropping dub 16s with capped blunt, Chris laker dropping dub flat 12s. There are endless possibilities for tricks, weather it's a different variation or grab tricks are always honing to change and get sicker. Everyone is doing the same shit these days, people like Vinni cash are bringing creative shit to the table, I think that's where the sport is heading, more flips and spins can only go so far.

No, history repeating itself would be if pros start dying because they're crashing on uncontrollable amounts of flips. Then we'd go through an era of heavy regulation on freedom in the name of safety and end up as an extremely boring Olympic sport.

Then 20 years later we'd invent a new thing to strap to our feet.

Simply look at the history of Aerials to answer this question.

The progression isn't only about doing new tricks, the cool thing about freeskiing is that you can always create different features to hit, the "boring" thing about aerials is that the jumps are always the same, doing dubs into wallrides or in features like the one in sunny in the breck segment should be the future

well, I am not sure about talent.. talent is timeless... but having better equipment, training facilities and history/information/experience to draw upon can shape the outcomes of that talent and the the rate of the progression.

Also, being in the right place at the right time with the right ideas can cause progression.

Add some glory and money.. and people will progress in just about anything. But if something just don't feel right, or is dangerous, or is capped by rules: that will curtail progression too.

I find it interesting to hear climber Reinhold Messner talk about the progression of mountain climbing, and he was at the pinnacle of the sport for a number of years too and he seems more than happy to pay credit where it's due..
