Snowboarding switch to skiing?

Hey NS,

Im a long time snowboarder and have progressed up to the competitive level of my sport. Being invited to ride for my provincial team was a recent achievement. However, my brother has been skiing for a few years now and has also been having tons of fun. Seeing the skiing community on here makes it ever so tempting to swap over to the old skis. I have been riding his second pair for a few days and I am loving it. Not killing it in the style department yet but the tricks are coming fast and there is so much room for creativity.

Well NS, do i stick with the semi successful path of boarding and still enjoy it and have fun. Or, do I swap to skiing and open up a whole new sport for me to try and progress.

Also am 16 for anybody who feels that is influential.

Try skiing for a little while longer and see how it is compared to boarding. If it doesn't work out you can always go back

but for real whichever you like to do better. or both. yeah.

If you have the time, you should do both! If snowboarding comps will get you money etc, then do snowboarding comps and ski the rest of the time

Yeah do whatever you enjoy. I have a friend that went from snowboarding, to skiing, and back to snowboarding because it was easier for him. To each his own

I've been snowboarding for quite a few years, but I skied for probably an equal amount of years before switching and I would kill to switch back. I would definitely suggest sticking with it for at least a little while.

I did the same thing as you! I switched to snowboarding because it was the Cool-trend a while back but I switched back over a few years ago. So glad I did. Skiing is just more me, I love it.
I used to take my board for the pow and just ski park and groomers. But this weekend I got my first "real" taste of powder and backcountry on skis. I loved it, I will probably never pick up a board again.

If you are not sure yet then you probably don't love skiing enough. Just do the one you love, the obvious choice will make itself known(skiing).

I would stay with snowboarding for several reasons. 1-Gear is cheaper 2-Boots are more comfy 3-shaun white is Cool

I boarded for a solid 17 days this season, then one day decided to pick up some Surfaces on criagslist for real cheap, and to be honest I couldn't be happier with the switch. Skiing makes me feel so much more free, not being stuck on on board. I really enjoy it, and it's given me something new to work at!

Hey There! After reaching a level in snowboarding where I really felt I wasn't going anywhere further, I decided I was bored and wanted to put myself in a position to learn how to "ollie" or "turn" or "ride a rail" all over again... from a completely blank slate. I ended up switching to tele as many of my friends had been doing it for a while. I had an awful first day.. I had no idea how to turn.. and riding with my chest open was the weirdest thing.

After that horrible day I sold my snowboard immediately.. though I had such a hard time I loved the challenge of learning something new. This was 3 seasons ago. Now I am absolutely in love with tele and would never go back to the board. Today is my Day 53 which is much more than I was getting with snowboarding. Skiing essentially revamped my love for the mountains.

If you feel you want to switch or learn something new, I say go for it! You can always go back. Also, go to tele! It is much easier to learn tele off of boarding than from alpine-ing. Then everyone on the mountain will think you're cool!

i skied till I was about 7 then went to snowboarding and just recently changed back to skiing 2 years ago and it was hard for the first day getting used to sliding rails and hitting jumps but after that it got pretty easy for me to try new stuff. I am 16 to but you should definitely give skiing a shot

Just like the last two posters and OP I skied as a kid and then started boarding when I was around 11-12. Up until two seasons ago, I lived and breathed snowboarding. However, I found that I pretty much peaked with boarding and could not progress any further. Something about the sideways position always felt unnatural to my body. When I switched back to skiing, it was pretty incredible how much my muscles remembered. Just a season later, I have my first pair of skis, I'm jibing everything in sight and I've already progressed further than I had boarding for 12 years. I just feel like skiing is more technical and allows for more creativity and style. There is only so many ways you can spin and grab a board, but split it in half and you double the options! I'm going to keep snowboarding here and there, and I wouldn't say I've "converted" but I am going to spend the majority of my time on the skinny ass snowboards :)

I originally snowboarded and then switched to skiing in high school and have mainly done that since but i love snowboarding still and will usually spend the last few runs of the day snowboarding. There is nothing like skiing hard all day and then putting on snowboard boots.

I am 16 and I snowboarded all my life. I just switched over to skiing this year and I absolutely love it. I would definatly recommend making the switch or atleast give it a try. Keep the board just incase but if you fall in love with skiing you can always sell your board and put that money towards new gear.

Started Snowboarding like everyone said...because it was cooler. I slowly started skiing, but all my snowboard friends gave me crap. I was the best in the group and yeah I helped them progress, but it lost it's fun. This year, mid season I just said f it and now I only use my park skis. I am so happy and I still ski with only snowboarders...they'll catch on too soon enough.

A bunch of snowboarders from my town switched and they picked it up a lot quicker than kids who started from scratch

I switched to skiing about five years ago, I basically started by saying I would do both but every morning I just ended up grabbing the skis
