So I don't smoke tobacco or weed, drink alcohol, or do any other kind of drugs...

(Yet I eat meat and consume caffeine, it's not like I refuse everything lol)

very unpopular and people think parties must be boring without being drunk, skiing must be lame without weed and you're not cool if you don't smoke anyways...

but personally I'm doing totally fine without it and I never felt like I'm missing something - am I the only one around here thinking like this?

OP i'm with you. I've never done any recreational drugs. Although I smoke cigs occasionally and I don't mind a beer every now and again. But never weed or anything.

And the people hating on this thread, who cares?? There are so lame ass drug threads that make me embarrassed about NS. "Official I'm High Thread" or that new official drug one. Fucking lame. I am just as curious as OP to see how many people on here don't actually do drugs. Whats wrong with wanting to know that? Good on you OP. :)

If you'd read the thread you would see this exact topic has already been covered. Sexuality is instinctual, natural, and innate. You didn't wonder if you would enjoy sex before the first time you had it, did you? It's the same as innately knowing that if you're thirsty, drinking water will quench your thirst, or if your bladder feels full you'll feel better if you pee.

Saying you don't like getting drunk or high without ever having been drunk or high is pretty much the equivalent of saying you don't like the refreshed feeling of getting a full nights sleep without ever having had a full nights sleep.

See I guess this is my biggest issue with stuff like that. Are things not already interesting? Because when you put it like that it kinda sounds like nothing is interesting without drugs. I have a good enough time without shit. I have enough problems with good decision making and self control. Why would I take something that could complicate that if I'm already having a good time

I used to be the same way in fact I was really against it all. But I figured I'd rather abuse my body and have some fun in life then always be sober. Honestly it was a great dissuasion and make sure you don't abuse it if you do decide to try it. Weed is safer then alcohol.

That's like saying that you shouldn't go faster when skiing or driving because you're already having fun at the speed you're going. There's fun in taking risks and pushing yourself. There are people out there who really shouldn't use drugs, but the majority of the population is entirely ok at least trying a good chunk of drugs.

No way bro... I haven't smoked weed in a few years and previously quit all alcohol for about a year. I don't think life is quite as enjoyable without them personally. To me both weed and alcohol but especially weed added to the experience such as smoking when skiing or long drives and drinking when out at parties, social events, and dinner BUT there is nothing wrong with not smoking or drinking in fact more power to you. Being completely clean is sick and I totally respect it

Sometimes staying in complete control can get boring. Substances are a way to experience new things, like waking up to your first snow as a child or then first time you stepped into a pair of skis. It can be good to loose control sometimes and let whatever happens just happen. It can be a refreshing and enlightening experience, and can teach you more about yourself. The point in my opinion where it starts to become too much is when you can't enjoy normal life without drugs. Drugs can be a gateway to something new, to experience the unknown.

And I agree with you, but I mean to some degree we really are. Obviously it depends on the person, but many people control a lot of what happens in their own lives.

Why does someone saying they like opiates mean they don't have their life together? I know very few people who have tried opiates for whatever reason and didn't enjoy the effect they have, it doesn't mean the lives of all of these people are a complete mess

Here's my feeling. Do whatever you want. I mean I really couldn't care less what you do when you log off NS. My issue real issue after thinking about it a bit is the defending of and singing the praises of something that has potential major repercussions. That's fine that you can control what you do and I always hope it stays that way but what if some 13 year old kid is on the fence about doing drugs, weighing the consequences of it and his own self control against the benefits. He sees your post about how enlightening it can be and 10 years later he's a train wreck. It's just that if that kid is on the fence what is logically the safer choice for that kids future? Do drugs or not?

Like I said do what you want, it's not like I have any power to stop or you have any power to make me do drugs. I guess my point here is that when you are saying drugs can do this and make you feel like this you are advocating to people with possibly less self control than you to take substances that are known to ruin a lot of peoples lives. Just keep that in mind

I should have clarified. I agree with you in everything that you just stated, what I said definitely doesn't apply to everybody. Everybody is different, and I am in no way an advocate of substance abuse. I personally hate drugs like opiates like heroin, drugs that make you feel good for an hour then destroy your life. Hell, I hardly do much besides alcohol, I don't weed, although I do plan on experimenting with psychedelics once my brain develops further. That was just my hypothesis for those who like drugs and do them a lot. I fully understand where you are coming from, that didn't cross my mind when I was writing that post.

Well, if he goes to IU he'll just do the basketball, pussy, and studies parts. I still fail to see the problem. Unless all the kids that go to IU are the kind of assholes who think they're really cool because they drink and don't let kids who don't drink hang out with them because they don't want girls to think that they hang out with people who don't get fucked up 5 nights a week and pass out with their head in the toilet after puking on the floor in the stall 3 nights a week.

Wait...so you say my analogy was wrong because it likened drug taking it to something instinctual....then you liken drug taking to getting sleep....which is instinctual? Seems a little contradictory there bud.

And that other guy who asked if i was serious...what's so unbelievable about what i said? I'm confused by that.

I will also add that I COMPLETELY understand why people do drugs. I totally get it. I just have fun already and I like being coherent and healthy. To each their own, i suppose. Not forcing my opinions, just offering another viewpoint.

The need/desire to sleep, yes, is instinctual, the amount that you sleep, however, is not (for example, some people need 9 hours of sleep to function at their best, some people only need 3). If you met a guy who spent his whole life sleeping only 4 hours a night and you told him that if he slept 8 instead he'd feel less tired and he told you you were wrong, what you would think? Because that's essentially the equivalent of never having been drunk, but insisting you don't enjoy it.

I used sleep as an example because the amount you sleep effects your mood/how you function the way alcohol does. If you want we can look at a simpler example, say, a person who has never tried orange juice, or any citrus based products, insisting that they are positive that they don't like it. Does that make sense/seem logical to you? Can a person really know they won't like orange juice without having any idea what it tastes like?
