This is what I do. Angle grinder with a very fine flap wheel, and set it up to shoot sparks away from the base. Make long, light and easy passes. I only do my like 20cm past the heel and toe of my binding, and leave the tips and tails sharp.

Gnarly ass file at a 45 degree angle (roughly) and just go ham. Works out the jerk off muscles too which is a plus..

as a tech i wouldnt recommend this method at all. I'd detune the ski as normal (tip and tail) and then take a medium gummy and make a few passes under the binding and leave a majority of the ski still sharp. For rails, you only need to take the edge of very slightly.

Dead serious. I ride a lot of PVC and wood rails. And I build all my skis with rocker, and have never had issues with them hooking in or out of turns. I'd probably de-tune the tips and tails if I was riding a fully cambered ski, but that's probably a long ways out from happening.

I like to go completely round underfoot, so an angle grinder is really the only practical method to achieve this besides a big ol file. I dont think it matters too much what kind of wheel you have on, but you do have to be careful and make lots of really light passes. I also leave the tips and tails sharp, and it's always worked great for me.
You don't have to take the edge off for rails, but if you are going to be hitting them a lot, I think it's advantageous to go completely round in the interest of longer life out of your skis. A round edge should be much less prone to cracking than a square one because of the larger area the pressure is distributed.

good to know gentlemen. For me, when i tune my skis at the shop, i never detune under foot and i've never had any issues on rails. skiing in the east coast means i like being able to hammer a turn on hardpack on the way to the park and you need edges for that. if you do a 1 on the base and 1 on the sidewall, you shouldnt catch like you would with the traditional 2 or 3 degree sidewall

When you are out in nowhere a 25cents is amazing !!! World Cup skies are dulled with alot of care with steel wool ! Regular skis are fine with a file tool, use it directionally to the grooves in the tool to not make chops !
