The interesting thing is what he said about skis going towards more of a microbrew type culture. If you follow surfing at all, massive parts of their manufacturing have gone in this direction. Some insane dude with an insane idea that makes a limited amount of boards that 'get you'.

If skiing became the sort of thing where I go to my local shaper for a pair of east coast park skis, I don't even know... If it was the same price as a normal ski, and just as good, then why not?

I shape my own boards now, but I'd go to my local shaper or shop before I bought an off the rack board from one of the big companies if I was gonna buy one. No reason to buy a $600 rusty when my shaper can do it custom, and probably for a bit less. Plus my shaper loves making boards, the shapebot does not.

Skis are a bit more universal, like a pow ski for utah will work in japan, but still. It would be funny to live in such a world.

Again very interesting..

I do think J is right about all the smaller ski builders popping up.. Even here in the Netherlands there was a great ski builder (RIP Steven! He builded some great looking skis but also some weird designed crud buster, cant find a pic now..) and now some young guns are trying to build a company as well. Whitedot skis is from Leeds UK and sells world wide, etc etc.
Really interesting what J comes up with..

If they make lizzies again, do want. That's a ski I've always wanted. I like deep sidecuts, they're fun, and if you're not a noob you don't hook all over the place. Also I'm short, so I never had an issue with them not coming any bigger. In fact, wasn't it just 172 or something? 168?

I'd take 172 center mounted. I'm like 166 or 167cm tall, or 5'5" so yeah... But I really like icelantic nomad sfts too, which are also fat and soft. They do make my old skinny chronics feel like nothing though. I'll get so many stupid looks in the lift lines in jersey too. It'll be great.

Well who could we speculate about? Most of the "pro" skiers have found ski sponsors for the year. All the Line skiers are locked up and Nordica grabbed a lot of the ones who left. Maybe some underground talent? Idk how i could start to speculate who that could be.

my thinking on this is J might actually believe in the idea of the afterbang, but at line/k2 couldn't make them cheap enough. Might be he is actually believes a ski should be like a skateboard and wants to make really budget skis, that arent the most durable but are the cheapest.

Team wise... I think some fairly well known skiers might jump at the chance to join a J-Lev operation but who knows. All the above is speculation.

I think it completely depends on the model of how he works with athletes. You'd also be surprised at how many people's contracts are more breakable than you think, and how many free agents are really roaming around.

Yeah the afterbangs were an excellent Idea. I was sold, and rode a pair for one season.

Unfortunately they were heavy, and not any more durable. a terrible combo for park skis.

For the dirt cheap park stick market, the Surface Blanks seem to be the perfect ski. unfortunately they dont seem durable either.

the real money could be in making a cheap, durable powder or all mountain ski.

I believe if you could make something like the LINE SFB or Blend for $300 that wouldn't fall apart, they would sell quite well.
