Hey everyone. Recently over the summer i busted up my ankle playing rugby. I was cleared for skiing this winter, but im not entirely sure how i get back into it. I plan on going to the local bunny hill a couple times to work on turns and getting my form back, but has anyone else been through a similar if not the same injury and how did you recover? Also, when would it be smart to start hitting the park again? i know its all on how well ive recovered but i want to hear from you guys.

Broke my ankle in like September, I was fine to ski in december. Basically just have to feel it out to see what your limits are. It may take some time to be where you were

That must not have been too bad of a break. My friend broke his ankle in April and he wasn't cleared to do anything except low risk sports until October. He's lucky he will be able to board this year, but his whole summer/skateboarding season was written off.

I myself have little experience with broken bones, but I would imagine that just like any other injury you just start off easy until you know what you can handle. It would suck if you pushed yourself too hard off the start and ended your season early.

i broke my metatarsil and when got back into skiing was pleasantly surprised how much support the ski boot actually gave me, but the ankle is probably totally different. Dont let something silly like waiting 1 month longer ruin your whole season, better play it safe than sorry

the doc actually told me that my ski boot would give great support and should probably return me to my previous skill level in no time. I'm just worried about being able to turn properly to the right (having my right ankle broken) and being able to hit those jumps and not feel like ive cased the landing everytime

all depends on the break my dude. If it a really bad one there's a chance you will never be the same, if its a minor one you can be skiing like a pro in just a couple months. It's all relative.

i broke my ankle in 4 spots, 2 on both sides. i currently have a plate and 4 screws per side. doc says i can get them removed if i want but 85% of people leave them in.

I got a Distal Fibular Fracture on my left ankle inside the boot hitting urban march 27th. I almost got 3 crews and a plate but was lucky and my ankle shifted back into place. I then went skiing in the end of May but couldnt hit anything big cuz my ankle still hurt a lot but i skied just as well as i did before i broke it. i wouldnt be to worried about. the ski boot really helps support your ankle when youre in it so you should be fine. dont worry about it

Skiing is actually really low impact if you take it easy. I broke my back 6 weeks ago and had to have 3 vertebrae fused with two rods. I cant even put my own socks on or remain standing or sitting for more than 15 minutes. I took a really slow run yesterday for the first time and had no issues. I dont plan on skiing for a while I just wanted to get back on skis once more before I leave NZ. Like everyone said just take it slow. Your body will tell you what you can and cant do.
