WARNING: possible unrelated tangent ahead…do not read if you feel like being a dick.
Skiing is a fucking leisure, a pastime. When people take it to the next level, when they consider it a sport(unless, well… you’ll see what I mean), that’s when they're doing it wrong and it pisses me off.
To put it another way, think about golf... I was playing a round with my COCKface of an uncle who was becoming pissed off at me for not being able to drive the ball 250 yards and keep up with him ( who also wasn't driving it 250 yards but anyway) at one point I turned around and told him to fuck right off, because last time I checked you're here at this shit ass country club and not at *insert PGA weekend tourney here*…so segueing into skiing. If you’re not at the “x-games” or some other bologna event…Just go drop that cliff into 4 feet of pow and have some gosh darn fun. Don’t hike that rail all day so you can perfect your front 2(xD)
When people take pastimes and leisure seriously, when they turn it into a sport, it becomes just unbelievable unenjoyable. While everyone wants to be the best, to be competitive, that’s when they need to take a step back and reevaluate why the hell they began to do this activity in the first place, for FUN…and I know it’s human nature to want to be the best, but we need to break this mentality.
That being said, I would love to be able to just ride through the park really smooth, throw some left and right 3's, couple zero spins(or drop a huge cliff, if that’s how you do) inspire the shit out of kids then get ghost and continue having fun on the mountain somewhere else without the bother of taking another lap with my gaggle of groupies and having to perform for them again like a circus act.
Also, I feel like some people would love to just disappear overnight while keeping their skill and monetary income from skiing...this might butthurt some people but, I think Henrik and Phil, if they could, would love to just become unknown, and film for their own sake, to progress and really refine their skill, BECAUSE THAT’S FUN FOR THEM. I really love what they did with the whole inspired tour and being able to meet them (just Phil and Paul in my case) but, fuck skiing with annoying ass lil kids and their less than impressive skill set. But it shows how much that they LOVE the sport and that they do it FOR LOVE AND FUN (this is speaking more about Phil I guess, since Henrik does the whole “sport” thingy, however that may not be “his” choice)
Honestly, I have no idea if this was even close to an appropriate response for this thread, but the comment above just set a fire under my ass about how much I respect Brogan for leaving when skiing became a sport….Rereading, I might have even talked myself into a circle but hell I hope this promotes some more stimulating conversation.
tl;dr-- SKIING IS FOR FUN. I would love to be better at certain aspects for the sake of refining my “fun” but fuck being famous and having to do every bullshit thing associated with it when all you wanna do is SKI…also there’s a lot of rambling and seriously unrelated content. Don’t hate, just respond constructively please.
He was over the sport in general, and its hard to just kinda fall out of the limelight without falling out of the sport. its been years, but brogan threads still come out every fuckin day..
He wanted to seperate himself from skiing as much as possible. He did go skiing once this year though so who knows?
