Best mid range lens?

What would be best mid range lens , something like 18-55.
budget around 500€ not sure (660$)

If you're on canon then the 17-55 IS USM f/2.8

If you're only shooting video though don't get it, the tamron 17-50 is a fraction of the price and it's perfect for video.

the Tamron 17-50 is also just fine for photography... although I think the Tokina and the Canon offer slightly better contrast and less distortion at the wide end.

I really like the Tokina 16-50 over both of them, honestly..

I wasn't so much talking optically, mainly the fact that the autofocus is useless IMO, and people like IS.

Then yeah I'd get the tamron, if you find it's good enough for photos then great, but if not you can always grab a couple primes as well for the same price.

If you already have a wide-normal lens, then with a bit of luck you can complement that with a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L which can be found for for that price.

now just started thinking about primes.
I allready have 11-16mm, kit lens (18-55), 50mm , and old 35-70mm nikon lens whit lens adapter and old sigma 75-300mm for nikon also  those nikon objects don't have autofocus so i don't like them a lot but i have them so i don't need 70-200mm.

I need something between 16-50, now started thinking about 35mm prime.
would it work? I think i don't need to have wider than that but wider than the 50mm prime. and it's less expensive than tamaron and i could have f/1.8 or 1.4?  

What do you think? am i right?

I'm loving my 28mm 1.8 (even with its weird ass looking bokeh). But I'd just get a 17-50 non vc/is/os/whatever and then save for a 70-200

All about the vintage primes. Look at some old M42 threaded lenses like the Carl Zeiss Jena lenses. You can pick-up fast vintage primes around f1.8 for $30-$40 and an adapter for $10 but apperture and focus are 100% manual. Check ebay. Plus if you're using an APS-C crop sensor camera you should remember that the field of view has a crop factor of 1.5 on most cameras and 1.6 on Canons. These lenses take rad photos and even better video with cool imperfections. Check-out www.lensporn.net (not sketchy!)
