Summer X-Games 2013

Anyone have a chance to watch tonight? Kinda bummed that Burnquist dropped his streak tonight, but the hit he took to the face was gnarly. In the interview after his nose looked pretty damn crooked... Stoked to watch some BMX and Skate events over the next few days to.

Also bummed to see Burnquist lose his streak. That hit was gnarly though. I'm surprised that they let him continue after it.

Best Whip was a popularity contest. Torronterras(sp?) got robbed again.

Stoked to see Higashino get the win in Freestyle MotoX. Those extensions are the best I've seen. I think again, its another example of the god awful judging that X-Games has.

Big Air has too many little people. What the fuck happened to Danny Way.

Best whip is the dumbest event so I didn't watch.
Freestyle moto x was alright. I feel like the older contests used to be more entertaining for some reason.

Yeah, needs more veterans. Its a publicity stunt for X-Games.
Freestyle Moto-X seems like it is running out of room to progress with the limited area they give the guys to work with.

yeah, the last couple years but this year especially, the course was so compact and the run ins were so small, i mean cool shit still went down, the Japanese guy (i forget his name) was crazy, but i feel moto freestyle is going backwards if anything

ESPN needed a shitty excuse to do fan voting without pissing too many people of.

It was billed as a fan favorite contest. I tweet voted for Shaun White and am not sure how he didn't win.

 I´m seriously pissed of. Last night (swedish time) I turned on ESPN America like I always do to watch the Xgames. Turns out ESPN America has ceased all operations in Europe.

So I got a week pass at ESPN player and they didn´t even show skateboard big air

Also, I don't know why, but I'm getting the vibe that X-Games is just not what it used to be. I can't find anyone in town who knew it was on let alone hyped to watch it. Really a buzzkill for me. Maybe it's where and who I live with in this city, but it sucks to get somewhat of a consensus that action sports just aren't cared about or appreciated. My life would be pure masturbation without it action sports though... True story.

I feel the global expansion has taken the hype out of it. I believe its the 3rd x games of the summer? The hype has kinda gotten spread from all in one event to a little in each even if you know what im saying

this. i personally hate what they did this year. the reason i loved summer x so much was purely because LA had so much hype and it led to better courses and more progression in my opinion

I feel ya. I feel like the Dew Tour cuts out on the hype to. Honestly, I would be ok if we got a Summer X one year, Winter X the next. Exclusively in one place. Sort of taking a page from the Olympic's books, and with the one year off between each seasonal event, I think there is still enough action and competition going on in other places for athletes to keep up?

But Imean with 4 year gaps between Olympic events, that builds serious hype, and I love the atmosphere. Everyone I know follows something at the Olympics and is usually cheering a specific someone on. And it's just cool being able to connect with more than just your normal circle of people about sport.

Maybe I'm thinking about it too hard, but it just sucks. Who knows, maybe the move to Texas next year will give a much needed revival to X.

It certainly works for the FIFA World Cup. The hype of the fans at the stadiums when it goes down is insane. Also, you would see so much more progression at the event.

Comparing the measily X Games to the World Cup is a bit of a stretch.

I think there should be one or two summer games each year. Maybe one in the US and one elsewhere. Them having 4 different summer X games kills it because a month or so between each event doesn't allow for the kind of progression that we would see in a year. I'd say the most obvious example is all form of FMX. Each year I'd come back and it would be so much crazier where as now there is hardly a difference from show to show. Action sports aren't big enough to take a year off imo.

did you guys hear about this? Not even in LA next year. I seriously feel like the prime of X games was like 2006, with Pastrana's double flip, big air used to be so new and progressive, and the vibe overall was just so much better

I'm very anti x-games at the moment. It's all gopro this and red bull that. I have nothing against corporations in actions sports but the xgames has gone warren miller entertainment movie status and doesn't have much to do with the athletes pushing their sports.

Right now, it's all about who has the most klout or social capital or whatever you call want to call it. That's really progressive...

right? and what's with the real snow backcountry during SUMMER xgames? they definitely went with the warren miller style for this one... terrible... if anything let travis rice the man himself talk about his own run.
