One thing i'm realizing. They're definitely making it well known that this thing is made for 4k video...

are they going to make final cut pro a real editing program again? Methinks there might be something up.

Yeah but whats funny, is alot of 'pros' wont want this computer. Its limited to upgrade, only one option for gpu, can only use pci-e flash, ram is probably easy to change but definitely cant upgrade processors/power and they jammed it into a tiny form for absolutely no reason. No 'pro' cares what their desktop looks like.

The base mac pro is a 4 core and its 2500 with the most minimum stats. For the new mac pro it has higher end components (gpu, flash drives, etc) so the base will be even higher and a quad core mac pro is worthless.

I definitely exaggerated prices, but the 8 core will be pushing 6k for sure and the 12 core will be 10k prob.

Apple introduces: the soda can. I'm more curious as to how all the components fit in there. Trying to cram a bunch of rectangles into a can as far as I'd imagine.

Not for people who make their living off a single machine, it's not. Maybe to an average consumer 6k sounds crazy, but to someone who works in an industry that requires such a machine, 6k's not that bad.

usually i hate pretty much everything eheath posts, but this made me glad. like many other image driven consumers, I was so fucking sold on this thing (haha), so I appreciate someone posting some level headed criticism to allow me to take a step back and look big picture. *applause* keep up the good work, I really dig NS when smart people dont just treat others like dicks

That has nice specs and would look nice next to another trash can, but for 3,000 dollars that is completely fucking worthless. You could build an PC with so much more power for even half that price. The components alone are like 1,000 so you pay 2,000 for the logo.

no, i know that many pros have mac pro setups that are >$10,000 but those are custom set ups that are all pimped out. im pretty sure all the stock mac pros have started around 2500 in the past...you could get them loaded up for more but nowhere near 6k, nevermind 10, right?

i might be totally wrong but i really don't see them selling a "stock" machine for more than $6k

well people do make some pretty nutso "hackintosh" towers that can run the OS

i have no interest/knowledge in the area but it does happen. i like apple a lot for a lot of reasons but also really dislike them for a few (absurd prices, using Foxconn etc, etc) so i can't blame people for making them

That's my main interest...

I've burned out an old mac pro before on a 7 hour editing marathon where I was trading off between Ae and Pr and always rendering. Computer just eventually fried.

definitely. i am pretty sure the only reason my macbook pro is still alive is due to the amount of additional heat dissipation from the unibody chassis, essentially making the entire aluminum shell a heatsink.

through the cylindrical design it should facilitate better airflow and prevent areas of stagnant or dead airflow where you may find corners and enclosed spaces in a box design.

So what engineering each one means is using intel/amd processors and nvidia/amd graphics, all standard parts, then putting them in a cylinder instead of a cube and calling it a huge step forward.

Basically sums up my thoughts about apple.
