How Did The Grabs Get Their Names?

Ok, I know Japan is because it looks like a karate kick.

But for most others, I have no idea where the names come from.

So, where did the names come from?

A lot of them are modified from snowboard grabs which were modified from skateboard grabs which were named by their inventors.

The only real big exceptions to this are Lui Kang (looks like Lui Kangs special attack from Mortal Combat), Octo (looks like an octopus), bow and arrow (self-explanatory), critical (this one I'm not sure of).

One that always gets me is "flatspin" I don't understand why its called that. Not a grab, but still.

Rollerblade trick by the same name...but if you see a true flatspin (not a wacklfip or rodeo) it'll make sense...your back is completely flat to the ground while spinning, hence flatspin.

Because in a true flatspin your body is parallel with the ground and the level of flip and spin is equal while your rotate. i.e. spinning flat

For some reason I always thought a flatspin was a wackflip and a flat 3,5,etc. was where you spin with your back flat to the ground. Does this mean flat 3s are flatspins?

They can be, most people just grab japan in an off axis backflip and call it a flat 3.

blunt grab was invented in 1994 when 2pac [R.I.P. 1996-1899) and some og pyru thugz got really blunted and went skiing when it snowed in compton and did some sweet tail grabs but their high ASSES called it 'blunt'

Safety because its like the simplest easiest grab so when you are doing a sketchy trick you do a safety grab to be safe.... orrrrr something

truck driver is self explanatory
safety cause its similar to being in the fetal position
octograb cause you look like an octopus

Mute is because tim windell jumped that gap that you go through on your way to timberline and he did a mute grab causing the crowd to silence.

Nose
Stale (somewhat new trick but old name/idea)

Rollerblading:
Liu Kang (real liu kang is a safety with a strait out kick NOT DOWN)
Safety

Skiing grabs:
Phil grab
Blunt
Truck driver
Critical

Lesser known grabs by Garret Russel:
English muffin
Jesus
Japanese Mutant

Skiing came late to the game so almost everything we do has come from rollerblading and skate boarding. Grinds, flips, spin rotations basics are all from fruit booters and wood pushers. Congratulations we are lame.

Blunt grab comes from when you're holding a blunt you hold it by the very end just like when you grab your very ends of your skis.
