Watching it right now, i dont see how people can think this stuff is real. Burning bush, parting the sea and adam and eve. All i see is that it started off as a cult that didnt go away much like the Mormons of today.

This whole thread could have been avoided by turning the channel. Why hate on things that others passionately believe in? Who are you to judge? Worry about yourself and your beliefs, dont bash others for having a different opinion.

I find it so crazy that when I was little i actually believed that all of that happened, legitamately believed it ALL. Ages and ages of people just blindly following something because their parents sent them to Sunday school and THEIR parents sent THEM to Sunday school and so on and so forth. What's interesting is that none of my family probably truly believes that all of the mythical stories in the bible are true i.e. the burning bush, Jonah and the whale. But all classify themselves as catholic. None of them believe that they are actually eating the body and blood of Christ either, which in catholic religion is supposed to be the LITERAL body and blood of Christ. Anyways...end rant

Meh, I thought it was neat. I watched the first episode and while it was pretty cheesy (The girl turning into salt, the roman soldier/monk guys). It wasn't as bad as I thought.

It does bother me that it's on history channel however, I think they should be showing it from a historical stand point, like the crucifixion and shit is fine, but splitting the red sea, really?

Anyways, I did like the meteor shower coming down on the city and the guy with the burning bush looked like he was tripping, so that was funny. Not as bad as I thought it would be.

You have to understand as a Christian, that person believes that as an unsaved person your going to go to hell for eternity. So by bringing it up all the time they may just be trying to care for you. You may not believe in what there trying to do for you but most christians are doing it out of love, or there supposed to be anyway.

The most the seas would ever be able to rise is 100 meters from where it is now. 450 million years ago the seas were 600 meters above where they are now and that is the highest they have gotten. Today people claim that the boat is on a Turkish mountain that is 4,000 meters above sea level. That definitely isn't Noah's boat. His boat would very likely be long gone by now even if it existed.

Its not supposed to be the LITERAL body and blood of Christ in an empirical or physical sense - no one actually believes that the host is the blood and body of Christ in its physicality - that would be stupid. What changes is the actual reality of the host (in this case meaning its truth) and through accepting the chalice or bread you are simply accepting Christ into your life. So even when the priest administers the host and says "the body/blood of Christ" he's not in fact giving you Jesus' blood/flesh to eat, he is presenting unto you Christ for you to accept into your life. All in all its basically a complex ceremonial symbol for accepting Christ into your life as your saviour - not some weird sort of cannibalism.

the argument shouldn't be "how can people believe that this stuff ACTUALLY happened?" It should be, "how can people still hold to a religion that was founded on the belief that all this stuff ACTUALLY happened, even though they know clearly now that it never did."

False. The transubstantiation of the Eucharist into Christ's flesh and blood is one of the main tenets of Christianity. You either believe this, or you are not a Christian. Even if you don't think it *literally* turns into Christ's flesh/blood, every major denomination believes that either his soul, or his flesh/blood are taken into your body LITERALLY with the sacrament. It IS, in fact, a weird sort of cannibalism.

It's a symbolic thing, every Christian I have ever met who partakes of the Lord's Supper doesn't actually think they are eating the body and blood of Jesus Christ, its just a symbolic thing.

I think Catholics might believe in literally eating Christ's body and blood, but not many other denominations, I'm Christian and I certainely don't believe that so....

my aunt who was married into our family is lutheran, they don't believe that it's actually the flesh and blood of jesus. but it is symbolic of it.

Ha, False. The Eucharist ISN'T a basic tenant of CHRISTIANITY as whole - there are many different churches that don't even recognize the Eucharist as a sacrament at all. Accepting the Eucharist does not define Christianity.

Also: what the fuck are you trying to say? I just said that Catholics (I have no idea about Orthodox Churches etc.) don't believe the Eucharist doesn't "literally" turn into Christ's blood/flesh in the physical or empirical sense which is what butterslut was saying. We don't believe that it is actually Christ's blood or flesh in a LITERAL sense.

I did say that you were accepting Christ into you through accepting the host. It ISN'T cannibalism Cannibalism is defined as the act or practice of humans eating the flesh or internal organs of other human beings. We don't believe that we're actually LITERALLY eating Jesus' flesh. Through accepting the sacrament we are accepting him into our body as our saviour, which is what I said before. Perhaps you misunderstood what I was saying.

Uhm you said that Catholics LITERALLY believe that we are consuming the blood/flesh of Christ when we accept the Eucharist... Which is what is absolutely wrong. The physical and empirical properties of the bread and wine DON'T change, just its truth. So no, we don't actually eat Jesus in a LITERAL sense.

Firstly, the quotations that you're pulling from the article comes directly from the Bible and don't verify or deny whether or not in the Catholic sacrament of the Eucharist people LITERALLY believe that what they are consuming is the LITERAL flesh/blood of Christ. So I don't understand why they are there. In fact, the link that you posted doesn't even come from a CATHOLIC website so its pretty much useless in this argument.

People know that the empirical and physical properties of the bread and wine do not change with transubstination and that it is in a complete LITERAL sense the flesh/blood of Christ. What people MIGHT'VE believed in the past is neither here nor there in this argument, because we are both discussing MODERN Catholicism.

sodomy is any sexual "crime against nature" including rape, pedophilia, anal sex, oral sex (LOL wut) and a slew of other things. buttfucking is just the most common use of that term nowadays i guess

but i enjoy seeing everyone argue about which spiritual denomination is the most annoying! you know which religion is NOT annoying and encompasses the good things out of the other religions whilst cutting the crap that makes people fight?
