Asac did I alter your text? Nope. I responded to every bit you wrote. So nice try though. Your entire post stated, to sum it up, that it is stupid to vote on what you 'believe is right.' Go back and read it for yourself.
Erik I am not retracting anything at your feeble and pathetic request. Your response to my post was weak at best.
If we did not have the Civil War the United States would likely be two nations today that would likely have fought numerous battles over the years that followed. Slavery would likely be rampant in the South and African-Americans would be unjustly traded as if they were not human beings. The victory of the North prevented this. War prevented this from occuring. The South wanted to seceed, the North wouldn't allow it and a war ensued.
If we did not enter the fray of battle in WWII Nazi Germany would have had control of most of Western Europe while Japan would have taken control of much of the eastern seaboard of Asia, China included. Millions upon millions of Jews would have continued to be euthanized, and millions of more innocent lives would have slayed at the evil regime of Hitler.
If we did not challenge the British in the revolutionary war we would have been at the grasp of what once was an oppressive monarchy for years to follow. War freed the colonies and allowed them to fulfill their vision of creating an independent nation.
War freed the Bosnians from the murderous Slobodan Milosevic.
War helped bring the ends to the likes of Mussolini.
War is not a beautiful thing. War is, as we all know, deadly. But war in many situations has saved more lives than it has cost. Diplomacy, unfortunately, does not always work.
Just imagine if we made a pre-emptive strike on Hitler's Germany back in the 30's. Imagine the lives that would have been saved. Imagine all of the jews that would have never of had to have been tortured or forced to go to the 'showers.' Would you object to a pre-emptive strike against Nazi Germany in the 30's knowing what you know today?
We know that Saddam had used WMD in the past (gassed Kurds killing thousands upon thousands) We know Saddam invaded Kuwait for the sole-purpose of over-throwing their government to claim their lands as his own. We know that tens if not hundreds of mass graves containing thousands upon thousands of mutilated and tortured bodies have been uncovered in Irag. War is unfortunate, war is costly, but we have freed over 50 million people from tortuous, terror supporting dictatorships since October of 2001. Yes there are insurgents, but they only make up a small portion of the population. The majority of our military voted for Bush this past election, dont you think they did that for a just reason? I would much rather avoid war at all costs, unfortunately, in a world full of crazed people, where some believe the Kuran says their purpose is to bring death to America diplomacy is not an answer, because they refuse it.
