I'm finishing a 11'6" flat to 8' down box tonight but that's already sold. It's on a hinge so it will work on flat ground or any hill. It's got legs so it can be an 18'6" flat box too. I can do other stuff too like basic flat double barrel rails and flat down or flat down flat. I don't have the tools to bend large radius stuff like a rainbow or c rail but if I sell enough ill buy more tools and build more stuff.
Ill post pics tonight of the flat down though.
it would be nice to be able to sell it for cheaper but i bought high quality materials so it would last a long time. that means its going to have a higher price tag. this is still less money then an 8 foot box from other companies like jib4cribs.
it was about 25 hours to build that. there are 28 different pieces of metal that have to but cut, angled, notched, weld prepped, then welded. then once the whole thing is built it needs to be cleaned again, primed, painted, second coat of paint, then cut the wood, cut the plastic, drill and counter sink all the holes for the bolts through the wood, then drill and counter sink all the holes for the top plastic sheet. the hardware is stainless which is a lot more expensive so it wont rust and turn the white plastic rusty red/ brown. it takes a half spool of wire, a good amount of gas and power to run the welder. the welder alone is $700 and the bender for the steel is another $600. it might not look like much, but its many hours and dollars that go into this. and i dont expect to make my money back off one or two rails, or else they would be way more expensive!
but if you want quality you have to pay for quality. if you want a simple pvc rail ill gladly build one of those but done expect it to last like this one will. you get what you pay for. im sure i could make more money building crappy rails/boxes, but im not going to let my reputation suffer for future builds.
