Overcoming Fear

I understand this is a repost but I searchbarred it and couldn't find anything. I am extremely comfortable doing backflips on tramps though once I think about trying it on skis it scares the living crap out of me. Any help on how to overcome this mental barrier? Thanks (I'll give out karma)

You have to want it. The reward of trying one has to overcome the risk. So just get yourself really stoked on it

pretty much this. its all about the risk:reward ratio.

im not sure this happens to you, but whenever i want to try something new i always feel as if the worst possible thing is going to happen. ill think about how i could land on my head and break my neck or something. try to supress thoughts like these, and just know that if you do try it and fall, you probably wont get hurt

I did my first backflip on a snowboard like a month ago and what really helped was just having friends who positively encouraged me. A couple of them have backfliped before and their posotive reinforcement really helped me just throw it.

find the jump your gonna do whatever new trick on, learn it, air it enough that you dont even think about going into it... whether it was me psyching myself over 3s on a 20 footer, or anyone throwing their first invert, you are likely to have a survival instinct and thoughts that X trick will result in a certain death.... warm up, shred the park, get a flow going, and once you are in that zone of stoke, stop thinking about the trick, and just do it. You will likely throw the trick when you go into a jump you are comfortable with, and either land it, or fall in a way that makes you realize it wasnt so bad. only one way to get better, face the beast/your fear. But if you are hesitating on your in-run, stop, i know ive fucked myself up the worst when i dropped in with any amount of doubt/hesitation in my mind. commitment is 100% key

When I try stuff it is usually because I am skiing with people that are better and I want to keep up or if my friends basically tell me to do it and I just hope for the best.  Things that have helped in the past are listening to a good song, having a friend do something sick just before you go, and if you're lucky having ski patrol standing next to the feature for no apparent reason.  My first time trying to cork I had all 3 of those and landed a cork 7 first try. I guess the combination of being pumped and having people right there to help you if you fuck up is enough to get over any fear you might have.  Good luck, I'm going to go for a rodeo and flat 3 for the first time tomorrow so hopefully my advice applies to me also.

I guess it worked, I landed both a rodeo and flat 3 first try yesterday.  Just have a friend tell you that you have to do it and there is no other option.

I find visualizing myself landing it helps. Aswell as music and homies get me trying stuff, and as soon as I drop in the fear goes away, I guess im just focusing on shit and what not
