Any one live in Sweden before?

Trying to transfer schools to Jonkoping Internation Business school in sweden.
( 3 hours from stockholm)

A buddy of mine lived there and loved it, Ive only heard good things about country,

I know quite a bit Scandinavia but just looking for some more feedback.

You'll be fine, Jönköping is a beautiful city and most swedes know mediocre to good english.

most of the girls there are pretty damn hot, and sweden also have some pretty great parks like åre and kläppen

When I was in Sweden, Stockholm only, everyone I interacted with spoke fantastic English. I felt bad as I really only knew how to say "thank you" and "the doors are opening" in Swedish. Probably from riding the metro so much.

Do you live there now?? I havnt done much research into a "swedish visa" yet, I dont know if it is like America but Im hoping to get a job on like student visa. not sure if you know about that or not ? :)

I've never lived that far south, but the vibe up north a bit (Sundsvall, Ostersund, Duved, Are', etc.) is beyond rad. Friendly/beautiful people, lots to do, and if you like cheese, fish, and vegetables, you'll never go hungry. And in my 11 plus years of yearly visiting twice a year, I have found it ironically humorous (especially recently) that it seems to snow shit tons in the low lands, but Are and Duved never seem to have many real deep powder days. But I would compare the Are' vib to a really chill, and slightly antique Whistler, where you can ski down the road if you want.

Haha, let me explain this.
Since hes not living in Europe, he needs a permit to live here, like when you go to Russia, you need a visa.
Jag tänkär det är benämna visum.

My cousin was studying economics in Florida, and just changed to uppsala university, to be closer to home, and he says its so amazing. Im not sure if you can handle all the partying tough ;)

Sweden is a great country! You'll probably like it here! A few things you might want to know:

A student visa should't be very hard to get. Your school will most likely help you. There are tons of exchange students coming here.

Compared to the US, it might be somewhat expensive. School is obviously free, but other stuff is a bit more costly.

You won't have a problem with language. Most of us know English quite well. (Apart from xcxllxcx apparently. Helt ärligt, du har väl koll på att det finns något som visum och arbetstillstånd och liknande?) And you'll most likely meet other native English speaking students. Also, most stuff on TV is in English, as well as most of the movies in the theatre.

We have a lot of nice skiing, and powder does exist! It's actually dumoing where I am right now.

Go to Norway. It's so beautiful.

Learn how to stand in line. We are experts in queueing. Take the note with the number on it, sit/stand in the designated are, get up when it's your turn.

If you're going to visit someones home, take your shoes off inside!

There is probably more, but it's almost 3 am and I'm tired.

Swedish girls are overrated in the same way that every Volvo is not handmade by Thor and his hammer Mjolnir.

I take that back, a Volvo is actually handmade by Thor.

But in general the girls in most European countries will be pretty much the same with a few slight variations.

It's not that country that really matters, it's where you go that is.
Go to the hottest club in town and there will be a tsunami of nine, tens and elevens.

All true! Even though I married a Swede, and both my kids are duel citizens, it was easier for me to enter the country long term on a J-1 visa rather than work with the US consulate to gain permanent status.

And to the OP, learn the language, especially if you want a job. While most (especially in the south) speak English, out of respect and ease you should learn the language.

Nope, not really. If you want a job were you have to encounter customers, then yeah, maybe. But then I think good English still would be better than a beginners Swedish with an accent. Some restaurants and bars have English speaking staff only, and if you took a job as a cleaner or something, not knowing Swedish is no problem at all.

That being said, it's always nice when people try to learn Swedish. Though I'm told it's quite hard to learn.

Basically no, english plays a huge roll in the educational system here and most people know good english (proof of that is me being 14 years and knowing fluid english). So the language barrier is practically gone except for the dialect which some people have a hard time understanding.

I think I have faked it so many times, skipping 30min queues just by going to the counter when they call for the second time and dropping my note in the basket.

It's not honest, but I see my time as being very precious and I don't want to waste it on something as dull as queuing.

When it's your turn. When the number on the note you have is displayed (there is usually a screen) or called, you'll go forwards.

Have you never gone to a deli in the country? There's a screen with a number that increases, you pick up a slip of paper with a number on it and wait til the screen displays your number, and then you get served by the doods

Is this gal called Wilhelmina by any chance?

Also my best friend is studying that exact course in Jönköping. Its a fairly sick place to live and the party scene is quite crazy! Ive been out there a couple of times, and from all of those times i have memory glitches haha. We swedes like to party.

Sweden is the shit tho for sure, I love being a native Swede, it has quite a few perks, beautiful women is one of those perks.

I agree with the statement that Åre is like a smaller version of Whistler. Currently living in Whistler I feel that the climate is quite similar, and so is the snow. Åre is a rad place to be skiing the park there is really sick. Kläppen also has a very nice setup. I will most likely be skiing at both of those resorts next season, so if you want someone to ski with then give me a shout.

I would love the opportunity to live in Sweden for a bit. Having visited relatives over there its an interesting / incredible place.

What i found very interesting is the similarities in things having grown up in Minnesota with a large swedish immigrant population, (like great grandparents immigrants) and then going over and seeing real sweden. lots of geographic similarities etc.

the best thing about Sweden VS other parts of europe is how clean and modern many things are.

I'm headed there in July to go see family, pretty nervous since I'll be there for almost a month (turning 16so I havent really traveled by myself :P). Good luck to you and I'll forsure report back my experience (of someone with no knowledge of the language and last time I was there I was 8).
