If you slide a rail on the nose/tail piece of your binding, you are not pressing.

Rocking back and forth on the rail because you got on it from the side or for whatever reason is not pressing.

Crouching down low doesn't mean you are pressing.

Sorry to burst your bubbles Mcveigh fan boys but despite his ability to do insane presses and ride with butter style, more often than not, he's just sliding a rail.

Why the fuck does it matter? It looks cool or it doesn't. That's all that fucking matters. That's been the basis of this site for as long as I've been on (which isn't long at all, but that's besides the point). Doesn't a smooth 360 look better than a shitty-looking no-grab aerial? Who the fuck cares if it's harder or a more ballsy, real trick. It looks terrible.

Your comparison would make more sense if you were constrasting the differences between two tricks in which one was really impressive and really hard to do and the other was a basic trick that everyone learned before puberty and could make it look good.

To be a press, you have to be pressed. That means rail or edge of box fully behind or in front of binding, and skis flexed. The first photo skierrman posted was a dude squatting with his front foot pushed out a little... looks cool and is his own style, like Kieran (who's skiing I am really really stoked on), but it's not REALLY a press... second photo looks silly, but if he could hold it in that position down the rail, that would actually be a press.

I don't argue with the blunt / noseblunt / whatever names posted above, that was a good clarification of what those mean.

However I do hate it when people just squat on a rail and people are like OMG PRESSSSS!

Because you actually have to PRESS your skis for it to be a PRESS

Clearly you need new eyes. His edit is what inspired this thread. And from what I've heard the kid in New Mexico that shot up his family was because the 12 year-old GF watched one of Mcveighs' edits and got so jealous of his amounts steeze that she convinced her bf to kill his family so she could have his steeze all to herself just in case that he did one day hit a rail with as much style as his cousin, Timothy Mcveigh and he blew up on the spot.

how is he wrong? are you the editor of ski tricks, their names and their definitions? Shit is constantly changing in our sport as new stuff gets done we label it. When people first started doing tail presses no one sat down but just leaned a bunch. The fact that is being debated proves there are no solid definitions.
