Don't Want to go to Prom, but my Parents Want me to. Will I regret it?

I don't want to go to prom in April, but my mom is making a huge deal out of it.. I never liked going to homecoming, and since I don't know who I would even ask to go to Prom, does it really matter? Will i regret it if i didn't go? Who didn't go, did you regret it?
Most, if not all of my friends are going to go, by the way
I've never been that much of a social gathering person

Honestly I would go. What else are you gonna do? Go sit home or just hang out with a couple friends and do normal shit? Prom is one of the more iconic nights of high school. You get decent food, dancing, and after parties. I would think of it more of a final send-off before college.

I went to mine and had a ton of fun. Just go. It can't hurt you.

It's really not a bad time if you're mildly social. You don't have to buy into all the "omg it's prom" madness"


IF you don't want to go don't though. You might regret it you might not. Life is about choices, you should be able to make your own.

prom is super fun. you might not think so now but its one of those iconic moments in your childhood, its a milestone. you will regret not going later in life. just ask a girl friend or something to go and enjoy it!

I say go. There is the possibility that you will regret not going but there is a slimmer possibility that you will regret going. Just find a date, take some pictures with her, enjoy the food, and have fun with your friends.

How do you know? Maybe he won't, maybe it's not his thing. Explain why you had fun, how it is for most people, or that you didn't think you were going to have fun but had a blast.


Maybe OP is going to go and have an awful time, maybe he'll skip and regret it his whole life, maybe he'll go and love it, or maybe he'll skip it and give 0 fucks.

I had a good time at prom. It wasn't anything epic but it was fun being almost classy for a night and hanging out with my friends.

Just do what you want OP. You're old enough. Sometimes you'll make the right choices, some times you'll make the wrong ones. That's life

quick story-
Didn't go to junior prom, everyone freaked out and said I'd regret it. I didn't and didn't even care because dances were prettttty lame. Senior year everyone bugged me so much I gave in and asked this girl I kinda liked, it was mehh at best and not a very fun night.. I spent 300 dollars on the night which was stupid.. I regret going haha that's totally me though idk you. I just know everyone at high school acted like dances were THE only thing that mattered and I have zero good memories from dances, only from doing fun things outside of high school with my friends

You only get one or two proms, three of you're lucky. My first prom I went with a girl I didn't know (my friend wanted her friend to go to prom and introduced us) for the sake of having a date. It was painfully awkward, but I was more than socially awkward at the time. I ended up saying fuck it, went in the dance floor, danced with her for one song, and broke off and danced with a bunch of people I would've never expected to. It was a lot of fun, the dj knew what he was doing and got the crowd really pumped up. It was awesome.

The after party would've been decent if I skipped prom, but having actually gone and being in a similar mindset to everyone else made it that much better. I didn't even go to the same party as my date and it was a great time drinking and dicking around a bonfire with my friends.

I came so close to not even going to prom, but in the end, it was a great idea. You don't know what it'll be like if you don't go. Having such low expectations and having anything above a bad time was all I needed to call it a success. Besides, prom food is always good. Real good.

I recommend going. But if you don't want to escort a date or go to the dance I would at least go to post prom and hang out with your friends. That is if you have a post prom.

it's not like youre going to miss out on anything amazing but you should definitely go. don't stress about who you take, just ask a girl you like or that's your friend. you'll go with a bunch of friends, eat, dance, mess around, then go to after parties if you want. def go man, i promise you won;t regret it

Probably a double post, but I was this guy. Dances always sucked and I went mostly because other people told me to. It was expensive, but my parents covered it and it ended up being a good memory.

Another story, senior prom sucked dick. I went with the expectations of Junior prom and the Dj had no clue how to get people going and 90 percent of everyone left as early as possible to go get fucked up at an after party. That, and I took my ex as a date because we had broken up between committing to prom and prom day. She was a shitty, emotional date. She started crying and being antisocial at the after party and after a few attempts to cheer her up and be a good guy, I just let her go and had a great night. She started crying and went home. Her problem. Not mine. I tried to make her night good at my expense.

if you dont want to go, dont. i didn't and thought it was a waste of time. id much rather just hang out with some friends. im sure it depends on the prom though, at mine the music was shit and the venue was lame.

didnt read everything, but i agree you should go, its pretty kinda fun i guess. I went junior year. Senior year, i fake went to prom. Left my house in a suit and everything, got skrill from my parents, partied and had amazing night at all the after prom parties=much better success than actually going to prom

honestly, you probably wont regret it that much if you don't go, and it probably won't be a big, monumental thing if you do go. i'm like you, not big on huge social occasions and such. i went to prom, it was fine, fun, but definitely not the kind of night where it's like "omg i'm going to remember this for the rest of my life!" or anything. honestly, i would have much rather just spent a normal night of hanging out with my friends.

I really enjoyed prom. It was a lot of fun. I remember we had video games and stuff for those who weren't into the "normal" prom stuff. My high school was weird.

In undergrad my fraternity would do a Formal and Semi-Formal which were like Prom but with alcohol and in Vegas or somewhere similar.

I didn't go and I still don't regret it to this day lol, even after hearing all of the funny stories. I don't doubt that my friends had a great time, but I thoroughly enjoyed ditching the costs of a suit and all of that other shit, time planning, etc and went for a grand-ass mountain bike ride instead.

Aside from a couple funny incidents, the rest of it sounded a bit lame, especially the part where you take forever to get inside because everyone needs 239847397 pictures and an introduction.

Yea well, if you like spending a ton of money for dinner, date, tickets, tux, dress, corsage, flowers, ect, whatever whatever. To spend about 2 hours getting pushed around by the scum of your school on a tiny dance floor then go to parties that you could have without prom then yea youre gonna have fun. I just dont see the point.

I should state that I went to two proms...my junior and senior...both were way different.

junior i had a "serious" highschool girlfriend got together with the families took picture after picture she wanted it to be all romantic and shit did the food, dance, after party and sex.

senior prom was way more fun, was broken up with the girl from junior prom so I went with my best friend from like kindergarten. She was dope as fuck, we rolled a fatty on the way to the grand march, we got to walk first ( she was senior class president and i was VP) we got down on the dance floor....and then separated at the after party and each ended up hooking up with randoms...and drove home the next morning and shared the stories....too this day shes still my best bud, pretty much the perfect wing man.
