Migraines

i get migraines about once every 2 weeks and they SUCK. I also happen to get them at the most inconvenient times sometimes i can stiop them early with 4 advil but if im too late im fucked.

Just wondering if any ns'ers also get them?

My gf use to get them everyday at least once, tons of dr, dentists later nothing, ending up going to the chiropractor a few times a week for a few months and changing aroind her diet and they're 100x better

so yea, nobody gets migraines that often. if you did you would kill yourself because of the pain. You're just getting headaches.

My mom has had migraines since she gave birth to my oldest sister, 35 years ago. Migraines literally leave her unable to move, throwing up and sometimes end up in the emergency room. She has been hospitalized for weeks at a time because of them. The drugs coupled with the migraines caused her stroke.

Advil wont stop a migraine. She takes a super gnarly vasoconstrictor called maxalt to help fight them and it works pretty well.

Luckily I have never had to deal with migraines (knock on wood), but I have heard of quite a few people seeing results with chiropractors. The only thing that kinda blows about them is that they are often not covered by insurance/benefits.

Chiros are amazing, helped me much more than pt when I broke my back, definatly recomend them. If youre not covered you could go for under 50$ a session places, expensive but worth it

i do throw up constantly because of them thats why i said it blows....... i have to go up in my  room with a bowl close my blinds put a beanie over my eyes and the covers over my head and hope to god i only throw up once........ i just havent had one serios enough to go to the emergency room

That's brutal that you're mom get them that bad and I'm sorry they have impacted her that badly, but not all migraines are that severe. I get them every once and a while, but used to get them more often and pretty much the only thing I've found that helps (a bit) is a crapload of advil and sleep. Usually it's still there, but not as bad. The pain is brutal, but the worst part is the lights or whatever (it's like a the lingering effect of a camera flash that ends up filling my entire vision) in my eyes before the pain comes.

ya my mom accedentaly had the flash on when taking a photo of me to show my doctor while i was having one and i did not open my eyes for 3 hous straight and i was not sleeping moral of the story fuck you migraines

yes I get them and the only thing that works like a charm for me is Excedrin Migraine. I've tried other things and even prescription but nothing works like Excedrin. They pulled it from the shelves for a few months for some sort of company wide recall and during that time i was absolutely miserable.

I used to get them alot. Was prescribed hydro condone for them which helped alot. I used to get all black and fuzzy in the corners of my vision

just bc someone doesnt get it as bad doesnt mean that its not a migraine. You can get different degrees of migraine some worse than others. Its like you can break your finger and it just gets inflamed, a bit crooked and shit or you can break your finger to a point that it is dangling..... both still a broken finger

When i get migraines i don't get colors on the outside of my vision, but it just goes black and keeps getting narrower and narrower. It's pretty embarrassing when i'm in the front row of the class and I cant read whats on the board. Last Christmas eve i got a crazy migraine where my fingertips were totally numb and I was barfing everywhere. My vision was so bad that if i had it right now i could probably only see the width of the home tab through the videos tab on the top of the site. Apparently i told this really cool story about how a cat, dog, Neil Armstrong, and a lizard got into a drag race. The iguana won but as he crossed the finish line the DeLorean crashed into him and Doc Brown disguised as Indiana Jones said "great Scott!" and then levitated into the sky.

Migraines blow, and be happy you don't get them more often, stories of people who get them every day make me sad.

I've been getting them ever since I was pretty young, used to throw up from them but I've gotten to the point where I can usually catch them before they get bad and pop a few advil and then I'm good to go. Either that or I have to sleep

I've had a migraine nonstop, every day since I was 12. They never go away. I've been to countless neurologists that haven't been able to diagnose it, and have been put on more medication than you can imagine.

Shit is not cash.

Sorry, but you're wrong. Migraines effect everyone differently, and just because you're mom gets fucked by them, it doesn't mean every person that gets migraines is going to experience them exactly the same. Doesn't work like that.

If you're really having a migraine every two weeks it could be a much more serious neurological condition. But Divalproex Sodium Find out what that is and start taking it.

I get them really infrequently and haven't had one for over a year but just yesterday morning I had one. I thought I must have looked into a bright light without realising it because I got slight blindness and white spots in my eye - I didn't even realise it was the start of a migraine because I haven't had one in so long but then boom! It knocked me for six. I was sick and ended up lying on the bathroom floor in total darkness for 3 hours. I had a really lucid sleep and eventually i was OK enough for me to be able to sit in the living room with shades on. Today I still have a headache and I know my head will be sensitive for another day or so. It's fucked my weekend plans and generally left me feeling pretty shitty. Those people who say a migraine is 'just a headache' can go get fucked.

For me, migraine pain isn't much worse than a headache.... BUT, I get gnarly a gnarly aura. I went blind for a day once, had to go to the ER and what not. I pretty much just get crazy tunnel vision for a few hours followed by a headache that is just very local and usually behind my eyes. I've had just normal headaches that have been worse. The vision thing is the part that's hard for me. But I only get them like once every year or two.

I get them sometimes too. Garunteed if i go on a carnival or theme park ride but i stopped those 2 years ago and im only 16. The only thing that helps me is a dark room and sleeping.

Used to have them about 3 times a week and Imitrex never worked, nothing i tried did. Took random meds for like 10 years and none of them ever worked. Finally went to a NUCCA doctor, there's only like 5 in the U.S. It fixed everything, now I'm fine! Something messed up about my axis and my neck

i can't imagine what migraines are like, ive never had one. the closest thing ive had to a migraine is fracturing my skull and if its anything like that, then they're absolutely terrible.

Ayy OP, I have migraines about monthly now but they use to be multiple times a week. I think mine went away with age and the best thing you can do is pop some advil/ibueprofen and some caffeine. I tried finding out what was causing them but it was literally impossible to narrow it down to one activity, food or other thing that could be.

I get a either headaches or migraines at least a couple times a week. The headaches are generally triggered by being hungry, dehydrated or overtired so I get a bit of a treasure hunt figuring out what's causing it but can then deal with it pretty easy. Sometimes the migraines are caused by Chinooks or eyestrain but finding the trigger doesn't help. I can always tell one's coming because I lose my peripheral vision and scents get painful. They need to be ridden out in a dark, odorless room and will involve a lot of puking if they get bad enough.

I get bad headaches all the time but I don't think they're migraines. I think my heads just broke. Maybe they are.


Idk I always carry around a bottle of advil or something now. I prolly have 3 in my car, 2 in my back pack, a couple in my room. I always need to have one.

Sounds like your mom gets very severe migraines, but milder cases still plague alot of people (myself included). They're very different from headaches, and to have someone say "Man up its just a headache" can be annoying since they dont know what its like, I've thrown up from migraines as well, but if you can catch a migraine early it wont be as bad.


Oh and if you start to see migraine symptoms but dont have meds, drink a little bit of coffee/mtn dew or anything with caffeine. Sounds counterproductive but it'll help

This. I used to get a couple of migraines a month after exercise. they would range from manageable pain that i could just lie down for an hour or two and get through, too puking up a couple of times and rocking back and forth because i couldn't lie still through the pain. i only got them after intense workouts though, hockey skiing, ect. i figured out they were connected to my sinuses, now i take sudafed and exedrin before i exert myself and i haven't gotten one since (will taking that med combo). from what i've learned from my migrain experience and talking to others is that everyone migraines are different. the best thing to do is try and take note of everything you did before you got a migraine, and try and figure out some of the main triggers. there is no one cure all for migraines.
