Heading to sqauw valley on friday at 5pm but there is a 100% chance of snow from noon to 10pm and projected totals of 6 inches to a foot, If it did snow how much does it take to shut down an airport and how long does it take them to reopen? My other option would be to drive to denver to avoid flying out of my own town and hopefully avoid the snow? Any ideas?

depends on the size of the airport. I have flown out of denver with a sizaable amount of snow on the ground, they de ice the wings on the tarmac and then you take off pretty much. granted that is one of the largest airports in america.

you'll probably have to pay a fee, and it depends on seat availability. but otherwise yes, they can.
the airport closing is really dependent on plenty of things. large airports that get a lot of snow can usually just go right through a storm because they have a giant fleet of plows. smaller ones may just shut down and wait out the storm.
and in the end it all comes down to the pilots discretion anyway
