Nice video dude! I liked what you did with motion tracking the names. Just wondering, why did you use the glidecam upside down for some of your shots?

putting a "metal" song to skiing doesnt make them "metal". berman and ware might be two of the least "metal" skiers out there. no hate to them or the skiing, just seems weird seeing them to something other than 2pac, flocka, etc

did you not know that you used the song from lolo favre's KOS entry? i understand that he only used a minute of that song, but i was under the impresson that you wouldn't reuse a song in an edit.

As an editor he's trying to create something different though. I enjoyed it because I am getting sick of all the glidecam edits that just slow all there footage down and through a rap song in. Nice job Evan!

eheath uses upside down glidecam, it's super effective!


edit was meh for me, i think the song just didn't make it work for me but that's totally personal taste, it might have worked for others...

i disliked:
- the song
- seemed a little too long for my liking
- text - it didn't fit in, it was too thin and the motion tracking didn't fit the vibe that well either IMO

i liked:
- black and white gave really nice tones, the sky looked really good
- sounds were above par as usual
- really liked the shot at 3:41 i think it was where you rotated the camera as the direction of the skier went from going upward to downward on the upbox w/ sideways pill

I really liked it. It's my favorite edit you've put out in a while. I feel like in the past year or so you followed a very similar formula for all your edits, and this broke that. It was a breath of fresh air and I enjoyed it.

Did you ever give up on trying to get your shadow out of shots? I was filming the last like 2 weeks and its been something ive been working on but at times it feels like its constricting what I can shoot. I was just curious why you went back to having it there I guess. Sick edit though I liked its uniqueness

Seemed about a minute to long.  The style of the edit maybe dragged on for my liking a bit.  Also I know it's extremely difficult to keep your shadow out of the shots but it does distract from that feeling of being in the riders shoes as opposed to watching from a camera.  So basically I'm not as immersed in the edit as if there were no shadows.  I like that you broke from your mold though and of course the glidecam was on point.

That was tight. I'm a huge Maiden fan so it was nice to hear some. I like the metal and B&W; went well together. As well as the high-tempo editing and everything.

Loved the vibe and the shots were very nice. Very different. But i was not digging the black and white. I like the concept but i feel it could have been done a little better in post. It would have been nice to see a little cleaner black and white look. It felt very washed out to me. But overall loved it. Nice way of bringing something new.

pretty cool, but I agree about the thin text not really matching the vibe. Also, some of the shots in the beginning seemed almost too wide. There were some great ones where you got really close, but there were a couple where I think getting a little closer/switching the angle/using a slightly tighter lens would help, but this is only in a couple places, and the number of nice close shots really outweighed this. Just an observation I had tho

I try really hard to avoid the shadow sometimes, especially this time of year at PC cause the sun position is angled down hill. Unless I was directly next to someone or in front its almost impossible to avoid the shadow. I did my best for this vid but also didn't worry about it as much

Unpopular opinion. The black and white didn't really look right to me. I don't know what I'm taking about when it comes to filming, but something about it just made the riders kind of blend in at some points and distract me. Something just seemed off. Other than that, though, I really enjoyed the edit!

I remember when shit like this was spam.. but watch your whites, they were super muddy. And you shouldn't use a polarizer on a wide lens.

I definitely had some hot whites but I also shot a bunch in a shadows and bright light. I try to expose for the subject, not the snow ya know? especially the really low light/flat day shots. And I don't use a polarizer I use a variND which is technically two polerizers.

Yeah there were some that were proper, but quite a few that were muddy, and quite a few with dark skiers. And that using a vari ND isn't much better, check out your skies, they range from near black to a light grey.

When in the video (timestamp) i wanna show you the color clips and see what you think, the sky is definitely all blue on my color clips, i guess im just no exactly sure what you're trying to say.

What?

Dude Im saying you shouldn't use a polarizer (in this case, vari ND) because it produces weird polarization around 90 degrees off the sun. Check out the shots at 1:07, 1:37 and the first couple shots around 2:00. There is a near black circle in the sky, while the rest is much lighter. Polarizers bring this out, and when you shoot wide, you end up with that weird dark circle. I dont doubt your sky isnt blue in color, I bet its actually a really deep rich blue. Weird as it is in color, it translates even worse in B&W.

Ahh ok I see what you're saying. Dark skys are also caused by high contrast too so i'm sure that doesn't help. Im looking to switch to a 1.2ND vs a variND so maybe that will make it look more pleasing.

as for the edit I thought the B&W looked much better than most edits I see. As other said for me that thin text didnt work at all. I just kept thinking of Bing! the whole time. Some of your glidecam shots are so awesome like the shot of Berman nose bonking off of the upbox.
It'd be really cool to see you put a ton of effort into making an edit with some nice close up shots from a long lens, maybe some fisheye shots, slider shots, wide tripod shots, all that on top of money glidecaming shots with a great sound design would be real tight. I dunno if AJ is the only one that makes the IRPC videos but it'd be interesting to see you make one with a nice variety of shots.

loved the maiden. i definitely feel like it would have worked better with a different skier though, somebody who absolutely sends it on every hit. and i guess the editing probably could have been even more aggressive to fit the theme. overall though its sick you tried something completely different.
