In order to be classified as a rodeo, I thought the minimum rotation needed was a 540.  In OP's video it seemed like he only had gone as far as a 180.

He means the backward flip rotation is the 360 part. For rodeo (and misty, etc) you add the rotation from both axes together.

OP - that was definitely an underflip.

I used to think this exact same way, I was always so confused, like "why the fuck is that a 5? He only did a 180 at the end" but that's because in skiing/snowboarding flips count as 360 degrees in the name, so when you add the 180 at the end it becomes 540, same with a double rodeo 1080, their not rotating 3 times around, their flipping twice and rotating two separate 180's, which adds up to 1080, hope that helps!

They're pretty much the same thing. the line between flat 5 and rodeo is so questionable these days. People like to say that rodeos are a bit more inverted than flat 5's, but it's usually a close call. Different people do rodeos differently, and some are flippier than others.

In literally every video on youtube of a "flat 5" or "rodeo 5" you will see massive amounts of arguing over which trick it is.

For example, here are two different rodeos. The first is very flat, the second is more inverted. Both are still rodeos.



Notice how his head is actually below his feet in this second viedo.


inb4 someone calls the first video out as being a flatspin. its tj schiller, i think he knows what trick hes doing.

i learnt my rodeos from tjs vid !!!!

on rodeos vs flat vs underflip:

underflip = on axis, 90 to licoln up hill to 90
(not very grey area which people seem to muddle especially when grabs are introduced)
rodeo 5 = off axis 540 spin where feet are above head
(very grey area due to how diffiferent people throw the trick)
flat 5 = off axis 540 spin where feet are below head

i remember seeing a good diagram somewhere with coloured arrows but i'm not sure which threads it was in

btw i can only throw these tricks on tramp cuz i'm pathetic

Underflip.

A rodeo is when you do a backwards flipping spin (more flip than spin) towards 10 on the clock if it was mounted on a wall.

A flatspin is when your back is parallel to the ground, you are basically doing a lincoln loop but you are flipped back 90 degrees if you can picture that. Very few people do real flatspins. It's called a flatspin because it's like you are lying flat on your back. Your feet do not go over your head.

underflips are not even close to rodeo 5s. theyre a completely different set. at least rodeo 5s and flat 5s are thrown exactly the same way.

to me it sees like any flat 3 is called a flat 3 and any flat/rodeo5 is just called a rodeo 5. at least thats what i call them. i dont know about you

Okay, once and for all:
In a rodeo you tilt your body backwards/to the right and spin left (or vice versa).
In an underflip you tilt your body back/to the left and spin left, or vice versa.

Think of it this way: A rodeo is often a super inverted bio. An underflip is a super inverted cork.

The trick in this video is a picture perfect underflip, since you usually try to throw underflips as straight back as possible.

They're usually called the same thing, but there's a difference.
A rodeo is more like a sideways backflip and a flatspin is less flippy.
