What mountain am I thinking of?!?!
Ok, so a couple of years ago now I think I drove out to school from Albany, heading toward Buffalo, and I saw a ski mountain off the Thruway to my left. Fairly decently sized for being off the thruway. And I can't remember if it was in business or not.
I still see it every time I go from Albany to Buffalo (or the other way) and I know it's not in business now.
I googled and can't find anything, even on the New England Lost Ski Areas website, so I'm hoping you can help.
I don't really know how much more info I can give. There is a billboard for Howe Caverns near this mountain. But the mountain isn't along route 88 where Howe Caverns is. It's along route 90 (the thruway.) If I had to guess, maybe between Little Falls and Utica? Not sure though. All I know is that it is literally right off the thruway. You can clearly tell it's a ski mountain.
Sorry I don't have more info, when I drive back out in a couple weeks I could get the nearest exit.

I think it is Bear or Gore mountain. I am pretty sure I see the same mountain you are talking about when I drive to and from school.

I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again. ~William Penn
Stand on your baggage rather than carry it, you won't be burdened and you'll be a bigger man
You're correct, it is Shu-Maker.. It has been closed for a while now. I skied there once or twice when I was younger. If I remember correctly it was pretty easy, couple decent trails. It is a bummer it is closed though. It would be a great little stop on my way back to Utica or back to Boston.
