How to ride powder?

Today I went to a mountain that had pow for the first time on a family trip to Utah. I don't have a proper ski bag so I decided i'd just rent skis. Every time I go into any powder my skis sink and I usually pop out of my bindings. Is there anything I can do to so I don't sink or am I shit outta luck? We are probably only going one more time so any help would be appreciated before I go back to the East.

Obviously the skis have to be different bcuz the ones u got were way too short.
But also you gotta change the way you ski a bit. a lot of ppl will tell you to lean back and stuff, but its not true. Youre supposed to stay centred and balanced on your skis. don't lean forward like you usually do when skiing, and dont lean back. Any skis can be used in powder, but obviously wider and longer skis will make it easier and much more fun!!
